Human Resources Specialist – Construction

Pay: $30-40 per hour

Job Description

BLVD Electric Inc. is seeking an experienced Human Resources Specialist who wants to build a long-term career with a growing commercial electrical contractor.

This role is ideal for an organized, dependable, and people-focused HR professional who understands the fast-paced nature of construction and can support employees throughout the entire employment process—from recruiting and onboarding to employee relations, compliance, benefits, documentation, and offboarding.

With more than 150 employees, BLVD Electric Inc. is a growing commercial electrical contractor operating across California. Our teams work on commercial buildings, ground-up construction, tenant improvements, hospitality, retail, fitness, multifamily, infrastructure, power distribution, lighting, controls, service upgrades, and large-scale electrical installations.

The HR Specialist will work closely with company leadership, office management, payroll, accounting, field operations, project management, superintendents, foremen, employees, candidates, insurance representatives, benefits providers, and outside HR and legal resources.

This position requires someone who can maintain confidentiality, communicate professionally, manage competing priorities, and help create organized and consistent HR processes across both office and field operations.

What You Will Do

Manage recruiting efforts for field and office positions.
Create and maintain job advertisements across recruiting platforms.
Review resumes, conduct initial phone screenings, and coordinate interviews.
Maintain communication with candidates throughout the hiring process.
Prepare offer letters, new-hire documents, and onboarding materials.
Coordinate employee onboarding, orientations, and required documentation.
Verify employment eligibility and maintain accurate I-9 records.
Maintain organized and confidential employee personnel files.
Track employee certifications, licenses, safety documents, and expiration dates.
Assist with benefits enrollment, employee questions, and qualifying life events.
Support payroll by reviewing employee information, timesheets, deductions, and employment changes.
Process employee status changes, wage changes, promotions, transfers, and terminations.
Assist employees and supervisors with workplace concerns and HR-related questions.
Support employee relations matters, disciplinary documentation, investigations, and performance discussions.
Prepare written warnings, performance improvement plans, separation documents, and other HR correspondence.
Coordinate workers’ compensation claims, injury documentation, and return-to-work processes.
Help maintain compliance with California employment laws and construction-industry requirements.
Monitor required meal periods, rest periods, overtime practices, attendance, and timekeeping procedures.
Assist with leave-of-absence administration, including applicable state and federal leave requirements.
Support unemployment claims, employment verifications, audits, and employee record requests.
Maintain HR trackers, employee rosters, recruiting reports, onboarding checklists, and compliance logs.
Help develop and update company policies, procedures, employee handbooks, and internal forms.
Assist with employee engagement, retention, recognition, training, and company events.
Communicate professionally with field employees, office staff, candidates, vendors, and management.
Help create consistent HR systems as the company continues to expand throughout California.

What We Are Looking For

Previous experience in human resources, recruiting, employee relations, payroll support, or office administration.
Construction, electrical contracting, subcontracting, skilled-trades, or field-service experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge of California employment laws and HR compliance requirements.
Experience supporting both hourly field employees and salaried office employees preferred.
Understanding of recruiting, onboarding, employee documentation, benefits, leave administration, and terminations.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Professional, dependable, approachable, and solution-oriented.
Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the company.
Comfortable addressing employee concerns while protecting company policies and compliance standards.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, spreadsheets, email, and electronic filing systems.
Experience with payroll, applicant-tracking, HRIS, timekeeping, or construction-management systems is preferred.
Bilingual English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred but not required.
SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR certification is a plus.
