Job Summary
The First Year Experience (FYE) area coordinator is an 11-month employee, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program and works collaboratively with the Dean of Academic Services, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Vice Chancellor of Student Services and the College Chancellor. The area coordinator assists in the planning and effectiveness evaluation, development, and implementation of FYE program goals. The FYE area coordinator is a key individual in the program’s institutional effectiveness process.
Job Duties:
The FYE area coordinator is responsible for teaching a minimum of 15 credit hours of FYE courses in the fall semester, 12 credit hours of FYE courses in the spring semester, and 3 credit hours in the Summer Bridge program. Courses taught will be a combination of face-to-face, online, and hybrid modalities.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty workload includes:
- Student advising
- Service on a variety of committees
- Community service
- Professional development
- Various departmental activities that may include course development and evaluation
- Mentoring part-time adjunct faculty
- Student learning outcome assessment
General area coordinator responsibilities include:
- To provide leadership in the program consistent with the mission of the college.
- To promote an effective teaching and learning environment.
- To promote the use of academic success within the program.
- To encourage effective communication with the program, division, and college.
- To be responsible, with the faculty and Dean, for the recruitment and retention of qualified staff and full-time, part-time and volunteer faculty within the program.
- To encourage academic processes and procedures that foster student success within the program.
- To participate in the student evaluation of instruction within the program.
- To be responsible, with the faculty, Dean and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs for the overall maintenance and enhancement of a quality academic program.
- To be responsible, with the faculty, for curriculum development, implementation of goals and evaluation of the academic program.
- To be responsible, with the Dean for the preparation of the schedule of classes.
- To actively use evaluation reports for the ongoing program effectiveness review and student outcome enhancement.
- To be responsible, with the Dean for ensuring that budget requests and expenditures are related to the goals and operational needs of the program.
- To be responsible with the Dean for the preparation of institutional reports as requested by internal and external sources.
- To promote compliance with the local college and KCTCS policies and procedures.
- To maintain program data and complete program reviews.
- To ensure accuracy of program website.
- To review program syllabi.
- To promote, recruit, coordinate and assess the Summer Bridge program.
- To assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
