We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to serve as a trusted financial partner to our organization. This part-time independent contractor role supports the organization's financial operations, compliance requirements, payroll administration, budgeting, and financial reporting functions. The successful contractor will work closely with organizational leadership and the Board of Directors to ensure sound financial stewardship while helping advance affordable housing opportunities throughout our community.

Availability & Meeting Expectations
- Provide regular remote accounting support and consultation
- Periodic onsite presence for meetings, training, audits, and organizational needs
- Attend Board of Directors and/or Finance Committee meetings as requested
- Participate in budget, audit, and strategic planning discussions as needed
- Maintain timely communication with organizational leadership
ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and present monthly financial statements, including:
- Profit & Loss Statements
- Balance Sheets
- Budget-to-Actual Reports
- Cash Flow Analysis
- Monitor organizational financial performance
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies
- Advise leadership regarding financial risks, controls, and best practices
Budgeting & Planning
- Assist with preparation of the annual operating budget
- Monitor budget performance and variances
- Support financial planning and decision-making
Payroll & Employee Financial Administration
- Process payroll accurately and timely
- Implement approved employee compensation adjustments
- Coordinate payroll tax reporting and remittances
- Prepare retirement plan census and related reporting
- Support payroll system administration and employee onboarding processes
Audit & Compliance
- Serve as primary accounting contact for auditors
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation
- Support grant compliance and financial reporting requirements
- Assist with retirement plan and other required financial reviews
Banking & Financial Oversight
- Complete bank reconciliations
- Monitor cash balances and financial activity
- Review accounts payable processes and supporting documentation
- Support implementation and improvement of accounting systems and procedures
Board & Advisory Support
- Present financial information to leadership and the Board as requested
- Provide recommendations regarding financial governance and compliance
- Support analysis of contracts, grants, and organizational initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
· CPA preferred but not required
· Minimum five (5) years of accounting experience
· Experience supporting nonprofit organizations, governmental entities, or similarly regulated organizations with budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and compliance
· Experience with payroll administration, payroll tax reporting, retirement plan administration, and employee-related financial compliance requirements
· Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
· Experience supporting annual audits and Board or governing-body financial reporting
· Strong understanding of financial statements, budgeting, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards
· Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills
Compensation
- Proposals may be submitted on an hourly or monthly retainer basis.
- Compensation is negotiable and will be based on qualifications, experience, and proposed scope of services.
