Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Authorization Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive the necessary authorizations for medical services and procedures. This position requires strong knowledge of managed care processes, medical coding, insurance verification and other front office duties. The Authorization Specialist will work closely with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to facilitate the approval process while adhering to HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

Review and process authorization requests for medical services and procedures.
Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits through various channels.
Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients regarding authorization status.
Maintain accurate records of all authorization requests and outcomes in compliance with HIPAA standards.
Collaborate with medical coding staff to ensure proper coding is used for all services rendered.
Address any issues or discrepancies related to authorizations promptly.
Stay updated on changes in managed care policies and procedures that may affect authorization processes.
Assist in training new staff members on authorization protocols as needed.

Requirements

Previous experience in a medical office setting is required.
Strong understanding of managed care principles and insurance verification processes.
Familiarity with medical coding practices.
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance standards.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, providers, insurance companies and other employees.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple authorization requests efficiently.
Proficient in using office software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
