We are seeking a strategic and hands-on leader who is flexible, adaptable, well-networked, and comfortable operating in a highly visible, high-touch role. The ideal candidate will possess strong operational judgment, a proactive leadership style, and a commitment to supporting Phoenix House’s mission and values.
You will have responsibilities including but not limited to:
Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fire/life safety, and related infrastructure across multiple facilities in New York City and Suffolk County
Direct preventive maintenance programs and ensure all facilities remain in compliance with applicable regulatory, safety, and accreditation standards
Manage annual operating and capital budgets for facilities operations and maintenance activities
Supervise maintenance personnel, porters, and related facilities staff across multiple locations
Develop departmental goals, objectives, policies, and performance standards aligned with organizational priorities
Lead staff recruitment, training, mentoring, performance management, and professional development initiatives
Solicit, evaluate, negotiate, and oversee third-party contractors, vendors, consultants, and service providers
Working with the Director of Capital Improvements to coordinate facility renovations, repairs, construction projects, and infrastructure upgrades
Lead Disaster Recovery Planning, emergency preparedness initiatives, and operational continuity implementation efforts
Conduct routine site inspections to ensure facilities are maintained in a safe, secure, and professional manner
Collaborate with executive leadership and program operations teams to support organizational growth and strategic initiatives
Ensure timely response to facility emergencies and operational issues as needed
This position may be based in either the Long Island City or Suffolk County facilities. Regular travel throughout NYC and Long Island is required.
Salary range $80,000 - $120,000
Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout New York State required
IFMA Certified Property Manager (CPM) or related facilities certification is a plus
Minimum of 10 years of progressive facilities management experience in the greater New York area, preferably within healthcare, behavioral health, nonprofit, or residential services environments
Demonstrated experience managing multi-site facilities operations and maintenance teams
Strong leadership, supervisory, and staff development skills
Excellent organizational, communication, and project management abilities
Experience managing vendor relationships, contracts, and operating budgets
Knowledge of building systems, regulatory compliance requirements, workplace safety standards, and emergency preparedness planning
Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
This job regularly works in an indoor office environment and in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
