Full Job Description

A growing multi-site healthcare organization with 9 locations across Northern New Jersey is seeking an experienced Part-Time HR & Payroll Generalist to support payroll, onboarding, training, employee relations, HR documentation, staff communication, and day-to-day workforce operations.

This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of 20 hours per week at $40 per hour, with room for growth as the organization continues to expand.

Position Overview

The HR & Payroll Generalist will support human resources operations across multiple healthcare locations. This role requires someone who is hands-on, organized, professional, discreet, and comfortable working directly with leadership, managers, and employees.

The ideal candidate has experience with Paychex, payroll processing, employee onboarding, personnel files, employee relations, workplace concerns, and HR compliance. This position is best suited for someone who can help create structure, improve communication, and support a professional workplace culture across a growing healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities

Process payroll through Paychex and assist with payroll-related questions.
Maintain employee records, personnel files, onboarding documents, and HR compliance files.
Support new hire onboarding, orientation, offer letters, employee paperwork, and system setup.
Assist with employee status changes, wage changes, terminations, and related documentation.
Help coordinate hiring workflows, interview scheduling, reference checks, and new employee communication.
Attend and help coordinate HR meetings, staff meetings, leadership meetings, and employee check-ins.
Support employee relations, staff concerns, workplace disputes, and internal communication.
Assist leadership with attendance issues, performance concerns, corrective action, and documentation.
Track credentials, required trainings, employee documents, policy acknowledgments, and compliance items.
Help update HR policies, procedures, employee handbook materials, and internal HR forms.
Coordinate with leadership across multiple Northern New Jersey locations.
Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and discretion with sensitive employee and company information.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of HR, payroll, employee relations, or staff operations experience.
Hands-on experience using Paychex for payroll, employee records, onboarding, or HR administration.
Strong understanding of payroll processing, employee documentation, confidentiality, and HR recordkeeping.
Experience handling employee questions, workplace concerns, and sensitive staff matters professionally.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while keeping leadership informed.
Ability to work in a hybrid role with some in-person availability for meetings, onboarding, staff support, and site visits.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Psychology, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
Payroll certification such as FPC or CPP preferred.
Healthcare, behavioral health, medical office, or multi-site operations experience strongly preferred.
Experience supporting managers with employee relations, corrective action, documentation, and employee communication.
Familiarity with healthcare staffing, credential tracking, training records, compliance files, and onboarding requirements.

Schedule and Compensation

$35-45 per hour
Minimum 20 hours per week
Part-time, hybrid position - BERGEN COUNTY
Remote administrative work with in-person availability as needed
In-person responsibilities may include onboarding appointments, HR meetings, staff meetings, site visits, and employee support
Room for growth as the organization expands
