The City of Paris is seeking applications for the position of Lead Water Treatment Plant Operator. This position is responsible for helping oversee the day-to-day operation of the Water Treatment Plant and ensuring the plant is operated safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable Arkansas Department of Health requirements.
The applicant must hold, or be able to obtain within 5 years, a Class IV Water Treatment License from the Arkansas Department of Health and a Class III Water Distribution License from ADEQ. Experience in a surface water treatment plant and/or wastewater operations is preferred.
The applicant should live within 30 minutes of the Water Treatment Plant and must be reasonably available for duty when needed. This position will be required to be on call every other week with a one-hour response time, unless the situation is an emergency requiring immediate response.
Essential Job Duties
The Lead Water Treatment Plant Operator performs duties that include, but are not limited to:
- Performing daily water quality testing, including chlorine, fluoride, pH, turbidity, and other required tests.
- Maintaining accurate daily records of water testing, plant operations, chemical usage, and other required data.
- Preparing and organizing data for monthly reports, including DMRs.
- Ensuring the Water Treatment Plant stays in compliance with Arkansas Department of Health requirements.
- Operating the Water Treatment Plant in a safe, dependable, and efficient manner.
- Sampling, testing, and logging water quality data as required by the Arkansas Department of Health.
- Operating and maintaining pumps, chemical feed equipment, clarifiers, filters, clearwells, water storage tanks, and related equipment.
- Operating, installing, servicing, and calibrating laboratory equipment and online process control equipment.
- Monitoring plant equipment and making adjustments as needed to maintain proper treatment levels.
- Troubleshooting and helping solve treatment-related chemical, mechanical, and electrical issues.
- Reporting maintenance needs, equipment issues, safety concerns, or compliance concerns in a timely manner.
- Mowing, weed eating, and maintaining the grounds around the Water Treatment Plant as needed.
- Keeping all work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Following all safety procedures, especially when working around hazardous chemicals, confined spaces, heights, and equipment.
- Performing any other duties assigned by the Plant Manager or Water Superintendent.

Work Environment
The Lead Water Treatment Plant Operator works in all weather conditions and may be required to work any hour of the day or night in case of emergencies. The work environment can be hazardous at times, and hazardous chemicals are handled on a regular basis. Climbing, lifting, bending, working at heights, and working in confined spaces may be required.
Schedule
- 8-hour shift
- Weekends as needed
- On-call rotation every other week
Reporting Structure
The Lead Water Treatment Plant Operator reports to the Water Treatment Plant Manager and Water Superintendent.
