Full Job Description

HGA is seeking a highly experienced High Voltage Electrical Engineer to support engineering, operations, and capital project initiatives within a specialty chemical manufacturing environment in Texas. This long-term contract role requires deep technical expertise in high voltage power systems, industrial electrical infrastructure, and reliability focused engineering.

This role will work closely with project teams, plant engineering, and operations to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable high voltage electrical system performance. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required for this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide high level engineering expertise for high voltage (HV) power distribution systems, including substations, transformers, switchgear, breakers, protective relaying, and transmission level equipment.
Lead evaluations, troubleshooting, and upgrades of HV electrical infrastructure to improve reliability and system performance.
Perform system studies such as short circuit analysis, arc flash analysis, load flow, grounding studies, and relay coordination (experience with ETAP/SKM preferred but not required).
Support plant capital projects by developing electrical scopes of work, equipment specifications, and construction packages for HV installations.
Review vendor drawings, equipment data, and engineering documentation for HV equipment compliance and suitability.
Conduct field verification and inspections to assess HV system conditions, identify deficiencies, and support maintenance planning.
Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and other engineering disciplines to resolve electrical issues and implement system improvements.
Ensure all design and field work adheres to applicable codes and standards, including NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, and relevant industry best practices.
Provide technical support during electrical outages, commissioning, and start ups involving high voltage equipment.
Support internal documentation, electrical one line updates, protective device settings review, and engineering reporting as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
Extensive experience in high voltage electrical engineering within industrial, chemical, utility, or heavy manufacturing environments.
Strong understanding of high voltage power distribution, substations, relay protection systems, and HV equipment design and maintenance.
Ability to perform or interpret system studies (short circuit, arc flash, coordination, load flow).
Familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA 70E).
Strong troubleshooting skills for complex HV system issues.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to engineers, maintenance, and plant personnel.
Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast paced industrial environment.
