Full Job Description

Staff Accountant

Public Accounting Firm | Full-Time

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our public accounting team. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base and gain hands-on experience in tax preparation, nonprofit auditing, bookkeeping, payroll, and general client accounting services.

Responsibilities

Prepare individual and business federal, state, and local tax returns.
Assist with tax research, planning, and responding to client tax questions.
Perform audits and other accounting services for nonprofit organizations.
Prepare workpapers, financial statements, and supporting schedules in accordance with professional standards.
Provide ongoing accounting and bookkeeping services for clients.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts.
Communicate directly with clients to obtain information, answer questions, and resolve accounting and tax issues.
Maintain accurate, organized, and timely workpapers and client records.
Stay current with applicable tax laws, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
1–3 years of accounting or related accounting experience preferred; strong recent graduates will also be considered.
Familiarity with individual and business tax returns is preferred.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple client engagements and meet deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
Experience with tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, or nonprofit auditing is a plus.
CPA eligibility or progress toward the CPA designation is preferred but not required.
