Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Ohio Reading Corps Assistant Coordinator supports the successful implementation of the Ohio Reading Corps program across Northeast Ohio. Working alongside the Program Coordinator, this position provides direct support to approximately 35 AmeriCorps members serving in partner schools and communities.

The Assistant Coordinator helps ensure members have a meaningful and successful service experience by fostering a culture centered on Intentionality, Belonging, Consistency, Authenticity, and Communication. This role serves as a key point of support for member recruitment, onboarding, training, site engagement, and ongoing member development throughout the service year.

Essential ResponsibilitiesMember Recruitment and Selection

Assist with recruiting high-quality AmeriCorps members throughout Northeast Ohio.
Review and screen applications submitted through Indeed and other recruitment platforms.
Schedule candidate interviews and assist with reference checks.
Support community recruitment efforts through outreach to libraries, community centers, churches, colleges, and neighborhood organizations.
Assist with planning and facilitating the annual Meet-and-Greet event for new and returning members.

Member Onboarding

Support new members through the onboarding process.
Coordinate with program staff to schedule and complete required background checks.
Meet with members to provide guidance and assistance during onboarding.
Assist with maintaining member files and ensuring required documentation is complete.
Respond to member questions and provide support during office hours and onboarding appointments.

School and Site Supervisor Support

Assist with communication and relationship-building efforts with Site Supervisors.
Support Site Supervisor meetings and pre-service planning activities.
Help create and distribute Site Supervisor resource materials and packets.

Training and Program Events

Support the planning and implementation of member orientation and training events.
Assist with logistics including room setup, materials preparation, catering coordination, technology support, and participant engagement.
Attend site visits during members' first month of service to provide coaching and encouragement.
Assist with planning and coordinating service initiatives, including National Day of Service projects and member engagement events throughout the year.

Member Support and Development

Conduct regular member check-ins through phone calls, virtual meetings, site visits, and in-person appointments.
Provide encouragement, guidance, and problem-solving support to members throughout their service term.
Assist members in navigating program requirements, expectations, and challenges.
Promote member engagement, retention, and professional development.
Help create opportunities for members to build connections, share successes, and strengthen their sense of belonging within the program.

Program Promotion and Community Engagement

Support efforts to promote Ohio Reading Corps and AmeriCorps throughout the community.
Assist with collecting photos, success stories, and member testimonials.
Contribute to newsletters, social media content, displays, and outreach materials.
Represent the program at recruitment events, community events, and partner meetings as needed.

Administrative Support

Assist with maintaining accurate program records and documentation.
Support data collection and reporting efforts.
Help coordinate communications with members, schools, and community partners.
Perform other duties as assigned to support program goals and member success.

Desired Qualifications

Experience with AmeriCorps

Experience working with youth, schools, volunteers, AmeriCorps members, or community-based programs.
