Full Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Director of Philanthropy will work with The Village Family Services Vice President of Development & Communications, the CEO, the Board of Directors, and staff to create and execute a comprehensive philanthropic fundraising strategy focused on major gifts, annual giving, corporate sponsorships, foundation support, and private philanthropy. This position is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and philanthropic partners while expanding sustainable revenue streams that support the agency's mission and strategic priorities.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent plus seven (7)+ years of nonprofit fundraising, philanthropy, or development experience.
2. Demonstrated success securing major gifts from individual donors, family foundations, corporations, and philanthropic institutions.
3. Proven experience building, managing, and advancing donor portfolios through cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and renewal.
4. Adept at creating and implementing strategic fundraising and donor engagement plans.
5. Strong prospect research, donor qualification, and moves-management experience.
6. Proven record of success developing corporate sponsorships and philanthropic partnerships that result in exceeding revenue targets.
7. Ability to effectively represent the agency with executive-level leaders, philanthropists, foundation officers, and community stakeholders.
8. Strong collaborator with board leadership, executive staff, and volunteer fundraising committees.
9. Excellent relationship-building, verbal communication, presentation, and analytical skills. Bilingual Spanish a plus.
10. Experience with donor database management software and fundraising reporting tools preferred.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
All of the responsibilities listed below are considered essential functions of this position. Additionally, this position is expected to ensure that the core operating values and the strategic direction of the agency are adhered to.

- 1. Develops and implements a comprehensive philanthropy strategy to achieve annual fundraising goals across individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, private foundations, and donor-advised funds.
  2. Manages a portfolio of major donors and prospective supporters, developing meaningful relationships that result in increased philanthropic investment and long-term engagement.
  3. Partners with the CEO, VP of Development & Communications, and Board members to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward high-capacity donors and philanthropic partners.
  4. Leads efforts to grow the organization's annual giving program, including donor acquisition, retention, upgrades, and recurring giving initiatives.
  5. Identifies, develops, and secures corporate sponsorships and strategic partnerships that provide financial support for programs, events, and organizational priorities.
  6. Researches, cultivates, and manages relationships with private foundations, family foundations, and philanthropic institutions to increase grant and partnership opportunities in partnership with the Sr. Grants Manager.
  7. Develops annual revenue projections, fundraising forecasts, donor pipeline reports, and performance metrics to support organizational planning and decision-making in partnership with the VP, Development and Communications.
  8. Oversees stewardship activities and ensures timely, meaningful recognition and engagement of donors, sponsors, and philanthropic partners.
  9. Supports fundraising campaigns, donor events, and cultivation opportunities designed to strengthen relationships and increase philanthropic support.
  10. Works collaboratively with leadership to identify funding priorities and align philanthropic opportunities with agency programs and strategic initiatives.
  11. Ensures accurate donor records, gift tracking, reporting, and compliance with agency policies and accepted fundraising best practices.
  12. Ensures compliance with agency policies, including employment, risk management, gift acceptance, cash handling, and financial controls.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:
- Standing: A significant portion of the work may involve standing for extended periods, particularly during presentations or when interacting with clients.
- Office equipment: Will need to use and operate various office equipment, such as computers, copiers, and fax machines, which requires hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
- Lifting: The job may occasionally involve lifting light objects or supplies, but the weight is typically limited to around 20 pounds.
- No strenuous activity: The job does not require strenuous physical exertion, such as running or heavy lifting.
