Full Job Description

Position Summary

Agate Integrated & Behavioral Healthcare Services, Inc. is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Psychiatrist to join our Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) Care Coordination Team. The Psychiatrist will play a vital role in providing psychiatric evaluations, medication management, treatment planning, and clinical leadership for adults living with serious mental illness who are participating in Maryland's Assisted Outpatient Treatment Program.

This position offers the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary, recovery-oriented team dedicated to improving treatment engagement, reducing psychiatric hospitalizations, and supporting individuals in achieving stability and independence within the community.

Essential Responsibilities

The Psychiatrist will:

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments.
Develop individualized treatment recommendations and participate in trauma-informed, person-centered treatment planning.
Participate in court proceedings and provide expert psychiatric testimony or consultation, as required, regarding an individual's diagnosis, treatment needs, clinical progress, and continued appropriateness for AOT.
Collaborate with the AOT Care Coordination Team, legal partners, and referring agencies throughout the AOT referral, petition, implementation, and review process.
Provide ongoing medication management and monitor treatment effectiveness and medication adherence.
Collaborate closely with the AOT Care Coordination Team, including therapists, case managers, nurses, peer support specialists, and community providers.
Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences and clinical team meetings.
Provide consultation and clinical guidance to members of the care coordination team regarding psychiatric treatment and behavioral health interventions.
Assess risk and intervene appropriately during psychiatric crises, including coordination of emergency services when necessary.
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic health record.
Support compliance with Maryland Department of Health regulations, organizational policies, and grant requirements.
Coordinate care with hospitals, primary care providers, residential programs, families (when appropriate), and other community partners.
Promote recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and evidence-based psychiatric care.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to positive participant outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland (or eligibility to obtain licensure before employment).
Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Psychiatry.
Valid federal DEA registration and Maryland Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) registration.
Experience treating adults with serious mental illness, including conditions such as schizophrenia spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and co-occurring substance use disorders.
Excellent clinical judgment and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary treatment team.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

Experience working in Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT), Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), community mental health, crisis services, or forensic behavioral health settings.
Familiarity with Maryland behavioral health systems and community resources.
Experience working with individuals experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
Knowledge of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and evidence-based treatment approaches.
Experience collaborating with courts, hospitals, law enforcement, and community-based service providers.
