Important note:

Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for the overall management and execution of COMPANY’S accounting and financial operations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, effective cash management, and compliance with all applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and company policies.

The Controller serves as the primary accounting leader and works closely with the Senior Vice President of Finance, executive leadership, operations leadership, and department managers to provide timely financial information, support business decisions, and drive organizational performance.

This position requires a hands-on leader capable of managing both strategic financial initiatives and daily accounting activities within a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

▪ Prepare and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

▪ Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger.

▪ Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.

▪ Ensure proper revenue recognition and expense allocation.

▪ Analyze financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.

▪ Prepare financial reporting packages for executive leadership and ownership.

▪ Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

▪ Assist with strategic financial analysis and operational decision-making.

Accounting Operations

▪ Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, and cash management functions.

▪ Ensure timely and accurate customer invoicing.

▪ Monitor collection efforts and outstanding receivables.

▪ Review and approve vendor payments.

▪ Maintain accounting records and supporting documentation.

▪ Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and balance sheet accounts.

▪ Oversee fixed asset tracking and depreciation schedules.

Cost Accounting & Operational Support

▪ Monitor labor, equipment, and operational costs.

▪ Support job costing and project profitability analysis.

▪ Partner with operations leadership to improve financial performance.

▪ Analyze direct labor, overhead, and SG&A expenses.

▪ Assist in evaluating operational efficiencies and cost reduction opportunities.

▪ Support pricing, profitability, and margin analysis.

Payroll & Benefits Financial Oversight

▪ Provide financial oversight of payroll processing activities.

▪ Review payroll-related reconciliations and reporting.

▪ Monitor payroll taxes, benefit deductions, and employer contributions.

▪ Ensure payroll-related liabilities are properly recorded and reconciled.

Compliance & Internal Controls

▪ Develop, implement, and maintain internal accounting controls.

▪ Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.

▪ Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and external financial reviews.

▪ Manage relationships with auditors, banks, insurance providers, and tax professionals.

▪ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.

Leadership & Team Development

▪ Lead and develop accounting department personnel.

▪ Establish performance expectations and accountability standards.

▪ Improve accounting processes and workflow efficiency.

▪ Cross-train team members to ensure business continuity.

▪ Promote a culture of accuracy, professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Other Responsibilities

▪ Participate in strategic planning and leadership meetings.

▪ Support mergers, acquisitions, financing activities, or special projects as assigned.

▪ Perform other duties as required to support the Company’s financial and operational objectives.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

▪ Month-end close completed accurately and on schedule.

▪ Financial statements delivered timely and accurately.

▪ Accounts receivable aging maintained within established targets.

▪ Reduction of billing delays and collection issues.

▪ Accurate cash flow forecasting.

▪ Successful completion of audits and compliance reviews.

▪ Accuracy of payroll and financial reporting.

▪ Budget adherence and cost management performance.

▪ Continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

▪ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

▪ CPA designation strongly preferred.

Experience

▪ Minimum 4 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.

▪ Experience in a multi-site services, field-services, or similarly complex operational environment preferred.

▪ Demonstrated experience managing full-cycle accounting operations including AP, AR, and financial close.

▪ Prior experience with job costing, cost accounting, or operational finance is strongly preferred.

Technical Skills

▪ Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central required; experience with additional ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage) a plus.

▪ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, financial modeling, and data analysis.

▪ Strong working knowledge of GAAP and applicable tax regulations.

Position Impact

The Controller plays a critical role in protecting COMPANY’s financial health, supporting operational decision-making, ensuring compliance, and providing leadership with accurate and timely financial information necessary to drive growth and profitability.

Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based. Occasional travel to field locations or external meetings may be required. Standard business hours apply, with additional availability expected during month-end close, audit periods, and special projects.
