Full Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer – Transmission Equipment is responsible for the engineering design, selection, verification, and application of transmission systems for gas turbine and power generation units. This role focuses on gearboxes, clutches, hydraulic couplings, and various mechanical couplings, ensuring reliable, continuous, and stable operation of rotating equipment under demanding operating conditions. The position requires strong technical expertise, supplier coordination capability, and on-site engineering support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Complete selection, parameter calculation, matching, and verification of transmission equipment, including gearboxes, clutches, hydraulic couplings, high-speed couplings, diaphragm couplings, and gear couplings.
Evaluate and design transmission solutions based on working conditions, load characteristics, rotational speed, torque, startup requirements, and environmental conditions for gas turbine and power generation units.
Develop overall transmission system plans and configurations, ensuring effective integration with gas turbines, generators, compressors, and auxiliary equipment.
Conduct engineering analysis and verification for strength, service life, vibration, coaxiality, torsional stiffness, overload protection, alignment tolerance, and system reliability.
Ensure transmission designs meet requirements for continuous, stable, and long-term operation of rotating machinery.
Communicate and coordinate with domestic and international transmission equipment manufacturers for technical exchanges, scheme evaluation, and optimization.
Lead or support technical scheme reviews, parameter confirmation, and technical agreement negotiations with suppliers of gearboxes, clutches, and couplings.
Act as the technical interface for transmission-related topics during project execution.
Review and approve manufacturer drawings, calculation reports, test data, material certificates, and compliance documents.
Control and ensure design quality, technical accuracy, and delivery requirements in accordance with project specifications and standards.
Support inspection, acceptance, and quality assurance activities as required.
Provide on-site engineering guidance for equipment positioning, installation, fixation, shaft alignment, clearance adjustment, and mechanical commissioning.
Support clutch engagement/disengagement parameter setting, gearbox lubrication system inspection, and lubricating oil circuit commissioning.
Assist in troubleshooting transmission-related issues during commissioning and early operation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Solid understanding of gearboxes, clutches, and coupling operating principles, thermodynamics, and control theory.
Experience in power generation, utility operations, industrial rotating machinery, or related mechanical systems.
Strong understanding of electrical systems used in power generation
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, 3D models, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
Demonstrated analytical, diagnostic, and technical communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience in power generation, utility operations, industrial rotating machinery, or related mechanical systems.
Experience working with electric utilities, EPC firms, or OEMs in the power generation sector.
Knowledge of industry standards such as ASME, API, ISO, and utility-specific requirements.
Familiarity with power plant operations, mechanical system integration, and performance testing.
Prior experience supporting cross‑functional engineering, manufacturing, or field service environments.
