Landscaping Manager – Luxury Resort & Gardens
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Landscaping Manager to lead the care, enhancement, and preservation of our luxury resort grounds, courtyards, and signature gardens. This position is responsible for maintaining a Four Diamond level of excellence throughout the property's exterior spaces, ensuring that all landscaping reflects the beauty, elegance, and attention to detail expected at a premier resort destination.
The Landscaping Manager oversees daily landscape operations, supervises landscaping staff, and implements comprehensive horticultural, irrigation, pest management, and weed abatement programs. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a passion for creating and maintaining luxurious gardens, vibrant outdoor environments, and exceptional curb appeal that enhances the guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise all landscape maintenance activities throughout the resort grounds, courtyards, gardens, pathways, and outdoor guest areas.
- Maintain luxury resort landscaping and ornamental gardens to the highest standards of appearance, health, and presentation.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute seasonal planting programs, garden enhancements, and large-scale landscape improvement projects.
- Direct landscaping staff, assign priorities, evaluate work quality, and provide coaching and performance feedback.
- Recruit, hire, train, and develop landscaping team members.
- Monitor and maintain irrigation systems, adjusting schedules and zones to ensure efficient water management and plant health.
- Develop and implement proactive pest management and weed abatement programs.
- Diagnose and resolve plant health, pest, irrigation, and landscape-related issues.
- Trim trees, hedges, shrubs, and ornamental plantings to promote optimum health, safety, and aesthetics.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, chemicals, and landscape materials; order supplies as needed and manage vendor relationships.
- Ensure all landscaping equipment is properly maintained, organized, and functioning safely.
- Handle chemicals and pesticides in accordance with OSHA regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with guests, management, vendors, and team members.
- Partner with the Director of Engineering regarding departmental needs, staffing requirements, and major landscape projects.
- Maintain outdoor spaces that consistently exceed guest expectations and contribute to a memorable resort experience.
Qualifications
Required
- Positive, outgoing, and professional demeanor.
- Minimum four (4) years of commercial landscaping experience.
- Previous experience supervising and leading landscaping teams.
- Strong knowledge of horticulture, irrigation systems, local climate conditions, plant care, pests, and weed control.
- Knowledge of proper chemical handling and possession of a pesticide applicator certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Understanding of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and safety procedures.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems, evaluate situations, and implement effective solutions.
- Experience operating landscaping equipment including weed trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, pole saws, hedge trimmers, and tractors.
- Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage inventory, purchasing, and vendor relationships.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, regulations, and professional publications.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations related to measurements, weights, and chemical applications.
Preferred
- Experience in luxury hospitality, resorts, hotels, golf courses, estates, botanical gardens, or similar high-end properties.
- Experience maintaining ornamental gardens, specialty plant collections, and luxury outdoor environments.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Degree or advanced training in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Certified forklift, scissor lift, or boom lift operator.
