Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Labor and Delivery (L&D) to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods, ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of both mother and newborn. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in obstetric nursing, possess exceptional assessment skills, and be committed to delivering compassionate patient-centered care within a fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities

Monitor fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs continuously to assess labor progress and detect any complications promptly.
Administer medications, including analgesics and induction agents, following established protocols while maintaining strict aseptic techniques.
Assist with labor management procedures such as suturing, epidural administration, and assisting with cesarean sections in the operating room.
Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families throughout the labor process and postpartum recovery.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatal nurses, and support staff to coordinate comprehensive care.
Document all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
Prepare the delivery area with sterile equipment, ensure infection control standards are maintained, and manage emergency situations including trauma or hemorrhage.
Conduct newborn assessments immediately post-delivery, facilitate bonding activities, and assist with initial procedures such as Apgar scoring.
Support discharge planning by providing education on postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care.

Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state licensure in good standing.
Minimum of two years of clinical experience in labor and delivery or obstetric nursing within a hospital setting.
Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
Experience with advanced obstetric procedures including epidural placement, suturing, and neonatal resuscitation.
Knowledge of fetal monitoring technologies and interpretation of cardiotocography (CTG).
Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and HIPAA regulations.
Ability to perform under pressure in emergency situations such as Level I or Level II trauma centers or high-acuity environments.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear patient education and collaborate effectively with healthcare teams.
