Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery (L&D) to join our dynamic maternity care team. In this vital role, you will provide expert nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods, ensuring a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment for mothers and their families. Your expertise will contribute to positive birth experiences while adhering to the highest standards of patient safety, clinical excellence, and evidence-based practice. Duties

Monitor fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs continuously during labor using advanced EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Cerner.
Administer medications including pain management techniques, IV infusions, and botulinum toxin treatments when appropriate.
Assist with labor progression, perform sterile procedures such as suturing and catheterization, and support laboring patients through active delivery stages.
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations, vital signs, and physiological evaluations to inform care plans.
Educate patients on childbirth options, postpartum care, breastfeeding techniques, and newborn care practices aligned with current clinical guidelines.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and behavioral health specialists to ensure holistic patient care.
Maintain accurate medical documentation in EMR/EHR systems while complying with HIPAA regulations and NCQA standards for quality assurance.

Requirements

Valid RN license with current registration in the state of practice.
Extensive experience working in Labor & Delivery units within teaching or high-volume hospitals; Level I or Level II trauma center experience preferred.
Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding for documentation accuracy.
Strong knowledge of obstetric procedures including fetal monitoring, aseptic technique, suturing, catheterization, and neonatal resuscitation procedures.
Critical care experience in settings like ICU or emergency medicine that enhances ability to manage acute pain and complex cases effectively.
Experience working with diverse patient populations including individuals with disabilities or developmental delays; knowledge of maternal-fetal physiology is essential.
Certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and advanced obstetric training are required.
Excellent communication skills coupled with a compassionate approach to patient education and family support.
