We are looking for a Fabrication Machine Operator to join our fabrication team.
This position will involve operating fabrication equipment such as saws, drill presses, and brake presses to cut, drill, and form material according to drawings and job requirements.
This can be an entry-level manufacturing position. Previous manufacturing, fabrication, construction, mechanical, or shop experience is preferred, but we are willing to train someone with a good mechanical foundation and willingness to learn.
The most important requirements are being able to accurately read a tape measure, understand basic drawings and schematics, follow dimensions, and consistently produce accurate work.
Responsibilities
- Operate saws to cut steel and other material according to drawings, cut lists, and job requirements.
- Measure, mark, and verify material before cutting or machining.
- Read and follow fabrication drawings, prints, schematics, and work orders.
- Operate drill presses to drill holes according to specified dimensions and locations.
- Learn to operate a brake press to bend and form material according to drawings and specifications.
- Perform basic machine setups and adjustments once trained.
- Verify dimensions, hole locations, bends, and quantities before sending parts to the next stage of production.
- Use tape measures, squares, calipers, and other measuring tools.
- Deburr, clean, and prepare parts as needed.
- Identify incorrect material, measurements, or drawing information before continuing a job.
- Keep material and completed parts organized and properly identified.
- Safely handle and move steel and other manufacturing materials.
- Perform basic equipment checks and report maintenance or equipment concerns.
- Work with welders, fabricators, and other production employees to keep jobs moving.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Follow all shop and equipment safety procedures.
Qualifications
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure, including fractions.
- Ability to read and understand basic manufacturing drawings, prints, and schematics.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing, fabrication, mechanical work, construction, or another hands-on environment.
- Basic math skills, including fractions and measurements.
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and industrial equipment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to consistently follow dimensions and instructions.
- Ability to recognize when something does not look right and ask questions before continuing.
- Dependable and able to work independently once trained.
- Willingness to learn and operate multiple pieces of fabrication equipment.
Preferred Experience
The following experience is helpful but not required:
- Metal fabrication
- Saw operation
- Drill press operation
- Brake press operation
- Reading fabrication drawings or blueprints
- Working with steel or aluminum
- Using calipers and other measuring tools
- Forklift or overhead crane operation
- Welding or general shop experience
- Agricultural or industrial equipment manufacturing
What We Are Looking For
You do not need years of fabrication experience to be successful in this position.
We are looking for someone who can measure accurately, understand basic drawings, pay attention to detail, work safely, and learn new equipment.
Accuracy is important because the parts produced in this position move on to other areas of manufacturing. The right person will take the time to make sure their work is correct and speak up when something does not match the drawing or job requirements.
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
