Full Job Description

Research laws, investigate facts and prepare letters, documents and pleadings necessary to assist the Office of the Attorney General in day-to-day activities, hearings and litigation.

Qualifications

Requires a Paralegal Certificate or a Bachelor’s degree; or two years’ experience as a Paralegal or research assistant. Indian law experience is strongly preferred.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Maintain a professional attitude and appearance that positively represents the Osage Nation and the Office of the Attorney General.
Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics.
Requires a high level of problem solving skills.
Must maintain confidentiality at all times.
Requires good time management skills, prioritizing, and the ability to work on multiple projects with minimal supervision.
Must be able to meet strict deadlines.
Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Must be able to effectively multi-task, manage time sensitive documents and have exceptional organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to function effectively in a busy, team oriented environment.
Office administration experience.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing.
Must have a clean driving record – may be required to drive a GSA or tribal vehicles.
Must possess excellent writing and speaking abilities
Must have the ability to work across disciplines with various funding sources and grant criteria
Must obtain/develop familiarity of Osage language and culture
Must maintain a professional attitude and appearance that positively represents the Nation
Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics

Duties & Responsibilities

Preparing affidavits, legal correspondence, pleadings and other documents for attorneys.
Organizing and maintaining documents in a paper or electronic filing system.
Meeting with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to talk about case details.
Meeting with departments, boards and commissions to discuss legal needs.
Filing pleadings with court clerk.
Helping prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed.
Preparing briefs, wills, contracts, real estate closing statements, pleadings, appeals, and other legal documents.
Investigating facts and laws of cases and searching public records, tribal codes, and other resources to prepare cases and determine causes of action.
Directing and coordinating law office activity.
Processing accounts payable and any other administrative duties, assigned by the Attorney General.
Gathering and analyzing statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, documents and other data.
Calling on witnesses to testify at hearings.
Keeping law library up-to-date by monitoring legal volumes.
Duties as assigned by Attorney General
Familiarity with Osage language and culture
