Position Overview
Quality Construction and Restoration is seeking an experienced Traveling Residential HVAC Project Manager to oversee residential construction and HVAC projects performed on military installations throughout the United States.
This position will be the primary Project Manager assigned to our HVAC projects and requires a strong working knowledge of both residential HVAC service and installation. The ideal candidate will also have broader residential construction experience involving remodeling, roofing, window replacement, exterior improvements, or similar trades.
This is a hands-on, field-oriented position. Approximately 75% of the role involves travel to military installations for project kickoffs, site evaluations, estimating and bidding, progress inspections, employee/contractor coordination, quality control, and project closeout.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage residential HVAC service and installation projects from initial site evaluation through completion.
- Serve as the company’s primary Project Manager for HVAC-related projects and other assigned capital improvement projects.
- Conduct jobsite visits, preconstruction meetings, project kickoffs, progress inspections, and final walkthroughs.
- Evaluate HVAC systems and project conditions to determine scope, labor, materials, equipment, scheduling, and potential risks.
- Prepare field measurements, scopes of work, estimates, bids, budgets, and project documentation.
- Review plans, specifications, equipment requirements, and installation details for accuracy and constructability.
- Coordinate HVAC technicians, subcontractors, suppliers, site personnel, customers, and internal operations teams.
- Oversee residential HVAC replacements, repairs, service work, ductwork, controls, ventilation, and related installations.
- Confirm that equipment selection and installation meet project requirements, manufacturer specifications, applicable codes, and quality standards.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, material procurement, change orders, and subcontractor performance.
- Identify field issues early and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
- Monitor jobsite safety, workmanship, productivity, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate project records, including photographs, daily updates, inspection results, schedules, costs, and closeout documentation.
- Ensure work complies with military-installation procedures, site-access requirements, and customer expectations.
- Support residential construction projects outside HVAC as needed, including remodeling, roofing, window replacement, and other home-improvement scopes.
- Travel approximately 75% of the time, including overnight and multi-day trips.
Required Qualifications
- Strong residential HVAC knowledge, including both service and installation.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate HVAC systems, recognize installation or performance issues, and communicate effectively with technicians and subcontractors.
- Experience managing residential HVAC, construction, renovation, or home-improvement projects.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, scopes of work, product information, and technical documentation.
- Experience performing site assessments, developing scopes, preparing estimates, or bidding construction projects.
- Strong project-planning, scheduling, budgeting, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple active projects in different locations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working independently and making sound decisions in the field.
- Proficiency with standard business software and the ability to learn company project-management systems.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 75% of the time.
- Ability to successfully complete required background screening and meet all requirements for access to military installations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in HVAC, residential construction, or construction project management.
- Prior experience as an HVAC Project Manager, HVAC Service Manager, HVAC Installation Manager, HVAC Estimator, Field Supervisor, or Lead HVAC Technician.
- Experience with residential remodeling, roofing, window replacement, exterior improvements, or multiple construction trades.
- Knowledge of residential HVAC load considerations, equipment sizing, duct systems, airflow, controls, ventilation, heat pumps, furnaces, air-conditioning systems, and common installation practices.
- EPA Section 608 certification, NATE certification, HVAC trade license, or other relevant credentials.
- Experience managing projects on military installations, government property, or other controlled-access sites.
- Experience working with dispersed field teams and subcontractors across multiple states or regions.
Physical and Travel Requirements
- Travel approximately 75% of the time by vehicle and/or commercial air.
- Work will include overnight stays and occasional schedule adjustments based on project needs.
- Ability to walk active jobsites, climb stairs and ladders, access attics or crawlspaces when necessary, and work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely lift and carry typical jobsite items such as tools, samples, or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
What Success Looks Like
The successful candidate will combine strong HVAC knowledge with disciplined project management. This person should be comfortable evaluating a residential HVAC project in the field, developing an accurate scope, coordinating the appropriate resources, solving jobsite problems, and driving the project through successful completion.
