Cargo Flow Officer

The Hawaii office offers a unique experience of acting as a sub-agency for CMA CGM (America) LLC – Norfolk. As a Honolulu Cargo Flow Officer, one will execute a multi-functional role of customer service, finance, and operations responsibilities. This position serves as the principal CMA CGM contact for all vessel and equipment operations, customers inquiring about either import or export cargo, and expediting all issues by quickly resolving to reduce service failures or loss of business. This position supports CMA CGM’s Honolulu office overall business strategy and requires associates who are passionate about customers, can demonstrate the ability to adapt to our industry’s constant changing environment, execute the essential functions and duties as well as the day-to-day responsibilities.
Functions & Duties
- Customer Service:
- Responsible to manage all aspects of both import and export shipments including, but not limited to bill of lading release, booking creation/confirmation, performing rate validation (auto-rating) and/or tariff line-item (TLI) filing, providing information to customers related to sailing schedule, cut-off/early return dates, equipment availability, routing, track & trace both containers and chassis, change of destination (COD), container swaps, re-exports, etc.
- Address customer inquiries/requests received via email/telephone, utilizing corporate information, local tools, and third-party data to ensure compliance with government regulations, company policies, and trade directives.
- Research and resolve import or export issues through root cause analysis and serving as liaison between CCA functional teams/GBS/overseas counterparts and external customers without delay to reduce service failures. For escalated issues, ensure to provide management resolution options for corrective action.
- Finance:
- Liaise with internal departments including origin/destination agents, account receivables, and GBS to assist customers with remittance advice regarding payment posting, duplicate/over/short payments, balances & offsets to ensure their account is current.
- Review and reconcile supplier/vendor invoice discrepancies.
- Re-bill customer for transport related expenses when applicable.
- Operations:
- Produce and issue load/transportation orders, vessel operations related reports (lift projections, HI BIO & wharfage reports, shift reports, etc.), and neighbor island schedules for terminal operators, stevedores, husbandry, customs, drayage, and barge suppliers/vendors.
- Interface with both internal and external teams for both import and export vessel and equipment operations including, but not limited to serving as customs liaison for scheduling mobile RPM (radiation portal monitoring), monitoring CMA CGM group and partner vessel allocations to maximize slot utilization, arranges connecting carrier agreement (CCA) containers via Pasha Hawaii vessels, maintains equipment pool levels, organizes the collection/assembly of hazardous declarations to reconcile against dangerous cargo manifests, distribute temperature-controlled and out of gauge (OOG) cargo manifests, approve late gate authorizations, resolve terminal/gate receipt/delivery issues, orders National Cargo Bureau (NCB) surveys as needed, etc.
- Ensures over-the-road compliance for door deliveries, neighbor island moves, military cargo, and the chassis pool.
- MISCELLANEOUS RELATED DUTIES or PROJECTS AS ASSIGNED
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Understanding of phone etiquette, background handling international customers a plus.
- Concept comprehension of active listening, which includes demonstrating empathy.
- Must have a strong foundation in problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Knowledge of the Maritime Shipping Industry.
- Knowledge of vessel and equipment operations.
- Exceptional customer service, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong organizational, time management and a high level of analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Proficiency in computer skills to include all Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.)

At CMA CGM, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The expected salary range for this position is $65,000- 80,000 per year. The actual salary offered will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
