The Executive Director of Marketing and Communication provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for all marketing, communications, and brand initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, this position is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive, data-informed, division-level marketing and communication strategy that supports student engagement, retention, and success while advancing the University of Houston's institutional priorities, brand, and reputation. The Executive Director serves as the chief marketing and communications strategist for Student Affairs, ensuring cohesive messaging across departments and programs, strengthening internal and external communications, and fostering collaborative partnerships across the university. '

1. Provides executive-level leadership for the planning, design, production, and implementation of integrated marketing and communication strategies across the Division of Student Affairs.
2. Establishes a long-term creative vision and brand narrative for Student Affairs that enhances division visibility, supports student success and retention, and reflects the vibrancy of the UH community.
3. Oversees the creation and execution of comprehensive marketing plans for Student Affairs units, incorporating best practices in higher education marketing, digital engagement, and customer relationship management.
4. Ensures cohesive and effective internal and external communications delivered through multiple channels, including digital platforms, websites, print publications, social media, video, and emerging technologies.
5. Leads the ongoing assessment and evaluation of marketing and communication initiatives using qualitative and quantitative metrics to measure effectiveness, return on investment, and student engagement outcomes.
6. Monitors and ensures that all publications, websites, campaigns, and promotional materials are current, accessible, inclusive, on-brand, and aligned with university and division initiatives.
7. Uses data analytics and market research to inform strategy, optimize messaging, and identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
8. Serves as the primary liaison between Student Affairs and university partners such as University Marketing and Communications, Academic Affairs, Information Technology, Institutional Research, and Advancement.
9. Represents Student Affairs in the development of institution-wide outreach materials, campaigns, and communication strategies, advocating for student-centered messaging and priorities.
10. Participates in and contributes to university-wide committees, task forces, and initiatives related to marketing, branding, student success, and strategic communications.
11. Oversees the division?s marketing and communications operating budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility, effective resource allocation, and compliance with university policies, state and federal regulations, and branding standards.
12. Establishes processes, workflows, and standards that ensure efficiency, consistency, and high-quality deliverables across all marketing and communication efforts.
13. Leads the recruitment, training, supervision, professional development, and performance evaluation of marketing and communications staff.
14. Builds and sustains a high-performing, collaborative team culture that values creativity, accountability, and continuous learning.
15. Provides mentorship and leadership development to staff, preparing future leaders in higher education marketing and communications.
16. Performs other duties as assigned in support of the Division of Student Affairs and the University of Houston's mission and goals.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, higher education administration, or a related field. Demonstrated success leading complex, integrated marketing and communication strategies in a large organization. Preferred: Master's degree in a related field. Experience: Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience, as well as significant progressive experience in marketing and communications, including leadership at a department or division level. Preferred: Experience in higher education, and/or student affairs. Expertise in digital marketing, brand management, analytics, and change leadership within complex institutional environments
