Position:
Valet/Bellman (hourly wage plus tips)
Description:
Our Valet/Bellman is responsible for being the first smiling and helpful associate a guest meets at The Thayer Hotel. The Valet/Bellman assists in carrying luggage for our guests as they arrive or depart, parks and retrieves guest vehicles, tends the main entrance, welcomes and bids farewell to guests, arranges transfers, provides directions, and serves as the first and last impression of our hotel.
Required Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving history
- Ability to work on your feet for long periods of time
- Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
- Enthusiastic and energetic team player
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Open the door for incoming/outgoing guests
- Check luggage at the Front Desk or bellman’s closet if needed
- Assist guests with retrieving luggage from their vehicles
- Tag and transport guest luggage to rooms or storage areas
- Park and retrieve guest vehicles in all types of weather
- Provide guest transportation via golf cart as needed
- Deliver packages and amenities to guest rooms
- Make mail runs and package deliveries
- Pick up newspapers for guests
- Check guest rooms for departures
- Deliver requested water to guest rooms
- Fill and place water container in lobby
- Tend to the fireplace
- Maintain cleanliness of the coffee station, water station, and trash area
- Keep the lobby and foyer clean and presentable
- Read the Transportation Log, Communication Log, and Daily Events
- Shovel and salt walkways during hazardous weather
- Maintain cleanliness and fuel level of the van and bus
- Report golf cart maintenance needs to management
- Make bank deposit trips as needed
- Pick up and drop off dry cleaning
- Be a team player for the hotel, not just the Front Office
Winter Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Refill the wood wagon overnight for morning staff
- Maintain fireplace cleanliness
- Shovel and salt front entrance and all slated areas
- Keep the lobby foyer dry and clean
Note: This is a weather-essential position. Valet/Bellman associates are eligible for guest tips. The role requires standing for most of the shift and may involve carrying luggage up or down as many as five flights of stairs.
