Full Job Description

Job Overview

HMA is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Accountant to join our firm. The successful candidate will oversee monthly accounting processes, prepare financial statements, and manage tax compliance for U.S. individual income (Form 1040), partnership (Form 1065), C-corporation (Form 1120), and S-corporation (Form 1120S) tax returns. This role requires strong leadership experience, as the Senior Accountant will guide staff, interact with clients, and ensure high-quality service delivery in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional with a proven track record in accounting, tax preparation, and team leadership, ready to contribute strategic insights to support our clients and firm growth.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation and Compliance
Prepare and review U.S. individual income (Form 1040), partnership (Form 1065), C-corporation (Form 1120), and S-corporation (Form 1120S) tax returns with accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations.
Research complex tax issues and provide clear, actionable advice to clients.
Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and optimize client outcomes.
Monthly Accounting and Financial Reporting
Perform month-end and year-end close processes, including general ledger postings, bank reconciliations, account analysis, and journal entries.
Prepare accurate financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements) in accordance with GAAP.
Develop client financial projections and budgets to support business planning and decision-making.
Review work prepared by staff to ensure accuracy and adherence to firm standards.
Assist in firm-wide initiatives, such as process improvements or technology adoption, to support growth and scalability.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (required); Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation is a plus.
Active CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation (required)
2+ years of recent tax preparation experience (small business and individual returns) with strong knowledge of tax law, including individual, business, and estate taxation
Previous experience creating and presenting small business financial statements
Proficiency with tax software - UltraTax and/or QuickBooks a plus
Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills in a fast-paced environment
Tax Season Commitment: Ability to work extended hours during tax season (January–April) to meet client deadlines.
