Main Function:
Coordinate and schedule all surgical procedures in an accurate, efficient, and patient‑centered manner. This role ensures that all required information, documentation, authorizations, and resources are in place to support a smooth surgical experience for patients, surgeons, and clinical staff. The scheduler serves as the primary liaison between patients, physician offices, anesthesia, and the surgery center to confirm case details, verify readiness, and maintain an organized surgical schedule that supports safe and timely patient care.

Duties
-
Schedules all procedures to be performed in facility
-
Follows scheduling form to obtain all necessary patient demographic, health, and insurance information from physician’s office
-
Considers priorities and patient/equipment special needs when scheduling preoperative appointments and surgical procedures
-
Schedules appointments and procedures according to nursing and anesthesia staff availability, patient needs, and physician’s block time
-
Coordinates surgical and preoperative appointment schedules with Administrator and preoperative nursing staff
-
Regulates schedule according to procedure and physician’s time and staffing requirements
-
Coordinates schedule with time and equipment availability; identifies conflicts and adjusts schedule as needed

Prepares preoperative-appointments schedule and surgery schedule for review by the Administrator so that adjustments may be made as necessary

Accurately prepares final preoperative and surgery schedule for timely distribution
-
Distributes schedules to appropriate areas so that required staff and supplies are available
-
Follows procedure for notification of changes in the schedule (e.g., cancellation, rescheduling)

For new patients, assigns medical record number and enters all demographic and insurance information into computer

For repeat patients, makes any necessary changes in demographic or insurance information in computer

Performs other miscellaneous office/clerical duties as needed

Answers telephone as needed

Requirements

1. High school diploma or GED certificate
2. Training or courses in business office activities
3. Good typing skills
