Full Job Description

Come join our 5 star care team here at Villa Health. It is the primary function of the CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant to provide each of the assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services, in accordance with the resident plan of care and as may be directed by the Charge Nurse (LVN) or Nursing Supervisor (RN).

Immediate Supervisor: Charge Nurse

Basic Requirements for the CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant

Knowledge, education, and training
Must be a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with laws if the state.
Knowledge of resident assessment instrument.
Knowledge if facility services, both skilled nursing and intermediate care, and appropriate disciplines and/or healthcare professionals that provide such services.
Must possess basic knowledge of nursing practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care.
Knowledge of resident rights including but not limited to: Patient Self Determination Act, right to execute an Advance Directives, right to treatment/refuse treatment, equal access to care, right to privacy & confidentiality of information, etc.
Must have a current CNA certificate and Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR.

CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant must have the following skills:

Must be able to understand and carry out written and verbal instruction.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with other personnel, resident and family members, visitor and the general public.
Must be able to present self well in various situations manifested by pleasant/good grooming, ability to assist residents, visitors or the general public in matters that concern general nursing services.
Must possess a positive attitude towards work, peers staff, residents, families, visitors or physicians or the general public.
Must possess a positive attitude with problem identification, and problem resolution.
Must be cooperative, with initiative and team spirit.
Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with other personnel.

Personal Nursing Care Functions.

Assist with residents with daily dental and oral care
Assist residents with bath functions.
Assist residents with dressing/undressing as necessary
Assist residents with nail care.
Keep residents dry by changing gown, clothing, linen, etc. when wet or soiled.
Assist residents with bowel and bladder functions.
Check and report bowel movements and character of stools as instructed.
Collect specimens as instructed
Assist residents in preparing for medical tests.
Assist residents in preparing for activity and social programs.
Assist in transporting a resident to/from appointments, activity and social programs as necessary.
Answer resident calls/ call lights promptly.
Assist with lifting, turning, moving, repositioning and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, tubes, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.
Ensure that residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently.
Keep residents’ water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water for each shift.
Report all hazardous conditions and equipment to Charge Nurse/Supervisor immediately.
Maintain an excellent working relationship with other department supervisor and coordinate the nursing services to assure that the daily needs of residents can be provided without interruptions
Provide daily perineal care.
Prepare residents for meals
Serve food trays and assist with feeding as indicated.
Sign and date all entries made in the resident’s medical record.

General Duties/Responsibilities for the CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant

Report all accidents and incidents observed in the shift as they occur.
Ensure that the resident’s room is ready for receiving the resident
Make our resident comfortable
Complete personal inventory and mark the resident’s personal possession as instructed.
Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established policy & procedures, and as instructed by Charge Nurses.
Follow work assignments and/ or work schedule in completing and performing assigned tasks.
Report any grievances made by the resident.
Report any work-related injuries to the nursing supervisor immediately.
Perform daily body checks on assigned residents and report to Charge Nurse any changes in condition to residents.
Observe, maintain and enhance resident’s rights
**Report all allegations of resident abuse and or misappropriation of resident property. **
Attend and participate in all scheduled in-service training to maintain current Nursing Certification
