Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Plant Manager for our Macon, Georgia location who is responsible for overseeing day-to-day production, supply chain, and plant operations to ensure efficiency, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This role aligns production goals with organizational objectives, leads and develops teams, and ensures effective coordination across departments to meet customer and business requirements. The Assistant Plant Manager drives continuous improvement, lean manufacturing initiatives, and cost optimization while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Lead safety programs to promote a zero-incident workplace culture.
- Drive quality initiatives to reduce customer complaints, PPM’s, internal scrap and rework.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (IATF 16949, ISO/TS, OEM requirements).
- Enforce compliance with regulatory, environmental, and company policies.
Manufacturing & Production Management
- Oversee and coordinate all plant operations, including production, maintenance, quality, safety, and logistics.
- Manage production planning, scheduling, and execution to meet delivery and customer requirements.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles, root cause analysis, and corrective actions to improve safety, quality, efficiency and reduce waste.
- Monitor plant KPIs, financial performance and budgets
- Ensure equipment reliability and uptime through effective maintenance practices.
Supply Chain & Logistics Coordination
- Collaborate with supply chain and procurement teams to ensure solid level loading production schedules and timely material availability to support variable production levels.
- Manage inventory space within the plant.
- Oversee shipping, receiving, and logistics to ensure on-time, cost-effective delivery.
Financial & Performance Management
- Assist with developing and managing the operations budget.
- Support capital investment projects and technology upgrades.
- Drive cost control initiatives while balancing quality, delivery, and customer satisfaction.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and support supervisory staff and hourly teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance reviews, training, and succession planning for key operational roles.
Risk & Problem-Solving
- Identify and mitigate operational risks to minimize disruption.
- Lead root cause investigations for safety, quality or production and ensure corrective action.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (Engineering, HR, PC&L, Purchasing) to resolve challenges and support operational success.
Skills & Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field.
- 7–10 years of progressive operations or manufacturing management experience (automotive/OEM/Tier 1 preferred).
- Strong knowledge of production processes, lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality standards (IATF 16949/ISO).
- Proven leadership with experience managing teams, budgets, and performance metrics.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must live in/relocate to Macon, GA area (within 30 miles of the IMMI plant in Macon GA).
- Willingness to travel domestically (10–15%).
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in Business, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Experience with ERP/MES systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent).
- Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, or Project Management (PMP).
- Exposure to Industry 4.0 and digital manufacturing technologies.
Required Tools:
- ERP & MES Systems (SAP, Oracle, MES, or equivalent) for production tracking and resource planning.
- Manufacturing planning, scheduling, and optimization tools to support efficient operations.
- Lean & Six Sigma toolkits for continuous improvement and problem-solving.
- Data analytics and performance dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent) to monitor KPIs.
- Project management software (MS Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent).
- Collaboration platforms (Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Zoom).
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for reporting and documentation.
- Safety equipment (steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection) for plant-floor visits.
- Mobile communication tools (two-way radios, tablets, or handheld devices) for real-time coordination.

Reports to: Plant Manager
Supervises: Operations Team
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods in the plant, in the plant environment interacting and managing the operations team. Position is 80%+ out in the plant not at a desk/in the office.
- Periodically requires sitting at a desk and working on a computer to complete project work or reporting work.
- Must be able to learn and perform all jobs performed in the plant.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to visually inspect and interpret designs on screen and in print.
- Use of functional Core Tools
Working Conditions/Environment:
- This work is deadline-oriented, requires multitasking, fluctuating work schedule, and flexibility within the workday.
- Frequent use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary.
- Requires the ability for close vision, distance vision and depth perception.
- Requires working and interacting with others, both in person and through phone, electronic, and written correspondence, and the ability to listen effectively, communicate clearly, maintain attention to detail, and perform focused work.
- This position may require extended travel.
