JOB SUMMARY
The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for the shift-by-shift supervision, safety, and well-being of residents within the First Horizon Recovery program. This position provides direct support to residents, assists with activities of daily living, maintains a safe and therapeutic environment, monitors resident activities, and supports the daily operation of the facility.
The Behavioral Health Technician serves as a liaison between residents, the Operations Director, clinical staff, families, outside providers, and other individuals involved in resident support services. The position is responsible for maintaining accurate documentation, monitoring resident activities, assisting with transportation and appointments, responding to emergencies, and ensuring compliance with program policies and procedures.
This position reports directly to the Operations Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Behavioral Health Technician's duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Maintain the safety and well-being of residents as the number one priority at all times.
- Monitor, educate, and assist residents with activities of daily living in accordance with individual treatment plans, treatment goals, identified needs, and areas of concern.
- Provide appropriate supervision of the resident milieu and maintain a safe, structured, supportive, and therapeutic environment.
- Accurately account for the whereabouts of each resident by conducting and documenting facility whereabouts in accordance with program policies and procedures.
- Review the Staff Communication Log, incident reports, and other pertinent documentation at the beginning of each shift and communicate with staff from the prior shift within the first 30 minutes of the shift.
- Conduct urine analysis (UA)/drug testing upon request and in accordance with program policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete resident and program records in the First Horizon electronic record system, including daily logs, shift documentation, incident reports, whereabouts documentation, and other required records.
- Document resident progress, significant changes, behavioral concerns, incidents, facility concerns, and safety issues and communicate relevant information to the Operations Director and appropriate clinical staff.
- Ensure all required administrative paperwork is accurate and up to date, including timesheets, mileage sheets, activity records, and other documentation as assigned.
- Monitor resident self-administration of medication when required and document appropriately in accordance with program policies and applicable regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information and interact with residents, families, visitors, care providers, and outside professionals in a respectful, therapeutic, professional, and ethical manner.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents and all individuals involved in resident care.
- Ensure visitors are authorized for visitation and properly sign in and out of the residence.
- Respond appropriately to resident conflicts, behavioral concerns, and other problems that arise within the residence and notify the appropriate supervisor when additional intervention is necessary.
- Manage crisis and emergency situations involving residents using appropriate safety management, emergency procedures, de-escalation techniques, and non-violent crisis intervention practices.
- Serve as a point of contact for emergencies and urgent questions and promptly communicate significant concerns to the Operations Director and appropriate clinical or administrative personnel.
- Carry out responsibilities necessary for the efficient and therapeutic operation of the facility, including resident activities, events, outings, groups, meetings, and other approved programming.
- Monitor and support resident participation in scheduled activities, appointments, groups, meetings, treatment-related activities, and other program requirements.
- Coordinate and assist with Individual Plan activities as directed by clinical or administrative staff.
- Prepare for and attend required staff meetings, resident meetings, trainings, and other meetings as directed. Conduct weekly resident house meetings when assigned.
- Transport residents to and from approved appointments, groups, meetings, activities, and other destinations.
- Accompany residents when transportation is required to obtain emergency treatment related to their physical or mental health when necessary and authorized.
- Conduct resident intakes and releases as assigned and in accordance with program procedures.
- Inventory, pack, secure, and store the personal property of residents who leave the program in accordance with established program procedures.
- Conduct resident room searches as scheduled or when authorized by appropriate staff and in accordance with program policies.
- Secure and maintain control of all facility, house, and office keys at all times.
- Allow residents to use the staff phone on an emergency basis when appropriate. Staff must dial the number and remain with the resident for the duration of the call.
- Assist with inventory and general maintenance of supplies, facilities, equipment, and household items.
- Maintain accurate inventories of program supplies, equipment, household items, and other program property.
- Assist with approved house-related expenditures, including shopping, petty cash, resident personal funds, receipts, and other expenses as assigned. Maintain appropriate documentation and operate within established budgetary guidelines.
- Report household repairs, maintenance concerns, and safety issues to the Operations Director and assist with ensuring necessary repairs are addressed in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and pleasant living environment and perform routine cleaning duties as needed.
- Assist residents with maintaining appropriate cleanliness and organization of their personal spaces and common areas.
- Participate in continuing education, training, and professional development activities to remain knowledgeable in areas relevant to behavioral health, substance use recovery, resident supervision, crisis intervention, safety, and program operations.
- Attend regular supervision and communicate effectively with supervisors and peers regarding resident needs, program operations, and other pertinent matters.
- Follow all First Horizon Recovery policies, procedures, safety requirements, emergency protocols, confidentiality requirements, and directives from supervisors and management.
- Remain at the assigned facility until properly relieved by another staff member. If additional hours are required due to staffing or operational needs, notify the Operations Director.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the Operations Director or other authorized management personnel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Maintain a valid Driver's License.
- Maintain current RADT certification.
- Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification.
- One year of experience in a human services, behavioral health, residential, or related setting preferred.
- Strong professional references demonstrating a high degree of customer service, punctuality, reliability, and professionalism.
- Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, outside providers, and other professionals.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Ability to follow instructions clearly and precisely while managing multiple competing demands.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful or crisis situations.
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to accurately complete required documentation and maintain organized records.

Pay: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour
