Travel Per Diem: $150/day, paid 7 days per week for qualified travelers

The Opportunity
Byers Industrial Services is actively seeking experienced Electrical QA/QC Inspectors, Technicians, and Foremen to support a large-scale industrial electrical construction project in Chesterfield, Virginia.
We are looking for highly experienced electrical professionals who understand what a quality installation looks like in the field and have the technical knowledge to identify deficiencies before they become costly rework.
This position is responsible for inspecting, testing, documenting, and verifying electrical installations for compliance with NEC requirements, approved drawings, project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and established QA/QC standards.
The ideal candidate will have a strong hands-on background in industrial or commercial electrical construction with experience involving conduit, cable tray, power distribution, switchgear, transformers, panels, conductors, grounding and bonding, electrical terminations, testing, and commissioning activities.
Candidates with previous experience as an Electrical QA/QC Inspector, QA/QC Technician, Electrical Foreman, Electrical Superintendent, or highly experienced Journeyman Electrician are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed QA/QC inspections of industrial electrical installations throughout all phases of construction
- Inspect EMT and Rigid conduit installations for proper routing, bends, supports, spacing, workmanship, and code compliance
- Inspect cable tray systems, cable routing, conductor installations, supports, and bend radius requirements
- Verify proper conductor sizing, identification, installation, and termination
- Inspect grounding and bonding systems for proper installation and NEC compliance
- Inspect electrical equipment including switchgear, transformers, panels, disconnects, motor connections, and distribution equipment
- Verify equipment and conductor terminations for proper workmanship, identification, torque requirements, and manufacturer specifications
- Perform progressive inspections to identify deficiencies before work is concealed, energized, or advanced to the next phase
- Review electrical installations against approved drawings, one-lines, schematics, specifications, submittals, manufacturer requirements, and applicable NEC standards
- Identify non-conforming work and clearly communicate required corrective actions to field supervision
- Verify completed corrective actions and close deficiencies once acceptable repairs have been confirmed
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, electrical foremen, subcontractors, commissioning teams, client representatives, and third-party inspectors
- Assist field leadership in preventing recurring installation issues and unnecessary rework
- Maintain high standards for electrical workmanship, code compliance, documentation, and project quality
Electrical Testing & Verification
Candidates should have practical knowledge of electrical testing procedures and understand why the test is being performed, when it should be performed, and what the results indicate.
Responsibilities may include performing, witnessing, reviewing, and documenting:
- Insulation resistance / Megger testing
- Continuity testing
- Grounding and bonding verification
- Torque verification
- Point-to-point verification
- High-voltage testing procedures when applicable
- Electrical equipment and conductor testing
- Review and interpretation of electrical test results
- Documentation of testing results and deficiencies
- Coordination of corrective action when installations or equipment fail testing requirements
QA/QC Documentation & Reporting
Quality control on this project requires strong field knowledge and accurate documentation.
Responsibilities include:
- Complete and maintain electrical inspection reports and checklists
- Maintain electrical testing records and supporting documentation
- Generate and track punch-list items
- Maintain deficiency and corrective-action logs
- Collect inspection data, photographs, test results, and supporting project records
- Track deficiencies through correction and final closeout
- Maintain organized electronic QA/QC documentation
- Assist with electrical turnover packages and project closeout documentation
- Ensure inspection and testing records are complete, accurate, and properly maintained
- Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and project-specific systems for inspection tracking, reporting, and communication
Required Electrical Knowledge
Candidates must possess strong working knowledge of industrial and/or commercial electrical construction, including:
- National Electrical Code (NEC)
- 120/208V and 277/480V systems
- Single-phase and three-phase power
- Delta vs. Wye electrical configurations
- Electrical distribution systems
- Conductor sizing and ampacity
- Overcurrent protection
- Continuous vs. non-continuous loads
- Grounding and bonding
- Conduit fill
- Conduit installation requirements
- Cable tray installation
- Cable and conductor support requirements
- Cable bend radius requirements
- Electrical equipment clearances
- Electrical identification and labeling
- Proper termination practices
- Torque requirements
- Electrical testing procedures
- General electrical troubleshooting
Candidates must be capable of identifying an improper installation, explaining why it is unacceptable, and determining what must be corrected to bring the installation into compliance.
Additional Responsibilities – QA/QC Foreman
Candidates being considered for the Electrical QA/QC Foreman level at $45–$50/hour must demonstrate additional leadership and field coordination capabilities.
QA/QC Foremen will be expected to:
- Lead and coordinate electrical QA/QC activities in the field
- Establish daily inspection priorities based on construction progress
- Coordinate directly with project management, superintendents, and electrical field leadership
- Provide direction and support to QA/QC Inspectors and Technicians when applicable
- Review inspection and testing documentation for completeness and accuracy
- Track open deficiencies through corrective action and final resolution
- Participate in project quality meetings and electrical coordination meetings
- Identify recurring workmanship or installation issues and work with field leadership to prevent repeat deficiencies
- Mentor electrical personnel on proper installation practices and quality expectations
- Coordinate inspections with client representatives, commissioning teams, and third-party inspectors
- Support electrical turnover, commissioning, and project closeout activities
- Maintain accountability for overall electrical installation quality within assigned areas
QA/QC Foremen must be capable of leading quality efforts in the field, not simply performing inspections.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive industrial and/or commercial electrical construction experience
- Journeyman-level electrical knowledge strongly preferred
- Previous experience as an Electrical QA/QC Inspector, QA/QC Technician, Electrical Foreman, Electrical Superintendent, Journeyman Electrician, or similar electrical field position
- Prior electrical QA/QC or inspection experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of NEC requirements and electrical installation standards
- Experience inspecting electrical installations for quality, workmanship, and compliance
- Working knowledge of electrical testing procedures and their applications
- Ability to identify improper installations and communicate required corrective actions
- Ability to read and interpret: Electrical blueprints, one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, equipment drawings, project specifications, submittals and manufacturer documentation, and QA/QC inspection and testing documentation
- Strong written documentation and reporting skills
- Strong communication skills with both craft personnel and project leadership
- Strong attention to detail and ability to enforce project quality standards
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- OSHA 30 is mandatory for Foreman-level candidates

Who We're Looking For
We are looking for electrical professionals who know the trade and take quality seriously.
You should be capable of walking an industrial electrical installation, recognizing quality workmanship, identifying deficiencies, referencing the applicable code, drawing, specification, or manufacturer requirement, documenting the issue, and clearly communicating what needs to be corrected.
You do not necessarily need to have spent your entire career in QA/QC.
Experienced Electrical Foremen, Superintendents, and Journeyman Electricians with strong technical knowledge who are interested in transitioning into electrical QA/QC are encouraged to apply.
However, candidates must have substantial industrial or commercial electrical field experience and the technical knowledge necessary to evaluate the work of other electricians.
