CAD Designer / CAD Drafter (Part-Time) – Fire Alarm Systems

Systec Limited of Wisconsin Inc., a trusted provider of life safety and security solutions, is seeking a detail-oriented CAD Designer / CAD Drafter to create and revise fire alarm system layout drawings using AlarmCAD. This flexible part-time opportunity offers 15–25 hours per week with the option to work in-office, remotely, or in a hybrid arrangement, with a preference for candidates who can work in the Milwaukee office most days. Experienced CAD professionals will receive paid training on AlarmCAD and fire alarm system design, making this an excellent opportunity to develop specialized skills in a growing industry.

Key Responsibilities

Create and revise fire alarm system layout drawings using architectural backgrounds, field notes, and engineering markups.
Develop device placement plans, riser diagrams, point-to-point wiring drawings, battery calculations, and device schedules.
Convert redline markups and as-built field drawings into accurate, submittal-ready drawing packages.
Maintain drawing files, revision histories, title blocks, and layer standards to ensure consistency across projects.
Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and field technicians to verify project scope and resolve drawing-related questions.
Review customer plans, provide device counts, and assist with project bids.
Support permit applications and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) submittal packages as needed.

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated CAD drafting experience using AutoCAD or a comparable CAD platform.
Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
Reliable communication skills and the ability to work independently while managing a flexible schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of CAD drafting experience.
Experience with AlarmCAD.
Familiarity with fire alarm system design, NFPA 72, or life safety systems. Training will be provided for qualified candidates without this experience.
