Full Job Description

Most family law job postings tell you the firm is "passionate about helping families," "fast-growing," and looking for "highly motivated" attorneys. You've read fifty of them this week. None of them tell you anything about what working there is actually like.

Family law has high attrition, and we understand why. Most attorneys went to law school wanting to make a difference, then end up feeling like they're churning hours for clients who don't trust them. That's why so many leave for government or nonprofit work. If you went to law school because you wanted the work to matter, and family law has not delivered on that, keep reading.

AFTA is a Texas family law firm with offices in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and the Rio Grande Valley. THE WORK

Run your own family law docket from day one
Primary focus on custody and child-related matters: SAPCRs, modifications, enforcement, high-conflict custody. Divorce and post-decree work in the mix.
We are a trial firm, not a settlement shop. Take cases through final orders.
Multiple board-certified paralegals on staff
Autonomy and real ownership. You drive your cases and your clients.
Room to grow into leadership as the firm scales
Visibility through the firm's platform if you want to build your own profile alongside ours

THE NUMBERS

$160,000 to $185,000 base depending on experience and book
1,450 billable hour requirement
Quarterly performance bonus, plus referral, conversion, and origination bonus opportunities
401(k) with company match
Unlimited PTO after a 90-day probation period, plus firm holidays
BCBS medical, dental, vision, life insurance
CLE reimbursement plus lodging for Advanced Family Law in San Antonio
Annual Bar and Board-Certification dues reimbursed
Relocation assistance available

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

5 to 8 years actively practicing Texas family law
Trial experience, including cases you've taken through final orders
Custody work is what we do most. You need to want this work, not just tolerate it.
Genuine care for clients, most of whom are mothers navigating one of the hardest moments of their lives
Steadiness and client control in high-conflict cases
Bilingual Spanish a plus
