Full Job Description

Accounting Clerk

Location: Northeast Philadelphia, PA

James D. Morrissey, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to join our accounting department. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working as part of a small but dedicated accounting team, and can effectively manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

Position Summary

The Accounting Clerk will perform a variety of accounting and administrative tasks, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, union benefit processing, reconciliations, and compliance reporting. This individual will also provide general support to the accounting and office teams.

Key Responsibilities

Post accounts receivable billing and receipts to the general ledger
Process daily deposit slips and receipt vouchers
Administer union benefit payments for various building trades
Coordinate with project teams to process subcontractor payments
Perform monthly operating and payroll account reconciliations
Manage weekly petty cash and employee expense reimbursements
Complete compliance reporting (DBE and other owner-related platforms)
Process accounts payable for affiliated companies and reconcile intercompany vendor statements
Provide general administrative and accounting support, including:
Check runs, Mail handling
Front desk coverage as needed
Perform additional duties as assigned by the controller

Qualifications Onsite Presence & Dependability: This is a fully onsite position requiring presence in the office 5 days a week; remote work is not available. We need an exceptionally reliable and punctual professional with an excellent attendance record who shows up consistently for the team.

High School Diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience in a similar role
Strong verbal communication skills
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills
Ability to learn company-specific accounting software
