Associate Attorney - Labor & Employment

Position Overview
We are seeking an Associate Attorney to join our Labor & Employment practice. The successful candidate will handle litigation and counseling matters for employers and employees, manage a varied caseload, and work closely with partners to deliver practical, compliant legal solutions. This role requires strong litigation, drafting, and client-advice skills, with the ability to analyze complex employment issues and support business-focused outcomes. Experience with ADA, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, and NJLAD is a plus.

Qualifications

2+ years of experience practicing labor and employment law (litigation and counseling experience preferred).
Demonstrated experience with legal research, motion practice, briefs, and courtroom advocacy.
Proven knowledge of Labor & Employment law; familiarity with ADA, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, and NJLAD is strongly preferred.
Experience handling administrative charges and proceedings (e.g., EEOC, state agencies) and employment litigation in state and federal court.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, client counseling ability, and strong negotiation skills.
Ability to manage multiple matters, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with legal research tools and case management software.
Commitment to professional development and contributing to firm growth through client service and business development activities.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a docket of labor and employment matters, including litigation in state and federal courts and administrative agencies.
Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, briefs, and settlement documents.
Represent clients at hearings, mediations, depositions, and trials; prepare witnesses and develop case strategy with partners.
Provide day-to-day counseling to clients on employment law compliance, workplace policies, discipline, termination, and investigations.
Draft and review employment policies, employee handbooks, severance agreements, and employment contracts.
Prepare and respond to administrative charges (EEOC, state civil rights agencies) and coordinate filings related to ADA, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, and NJLAD issues where applicable.
Manage discovery, coordinate with experts and outside vendors, and supervise paralegals and junior staff on case tasks.
Negotiate settlements and resolutions that align with client objectives while minimizing liability and exposure.
Maintain accurate case files, track billing/time entries, and communicate status updates to clients and supervising attorneys.
Stay current on developments in labor and employment law and contribute to client advisories, training sessions, and business development efforts.
