About Holy Family University

Holy Family University is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth founded in 1954. The University is a private institution in the Catholic tradition with campus locations in Philadelphia and Newtown PA. The main campus is nestled in the heart of a historic residential neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia that is vibrant and just minutes from the excitement of Center City. Position Summary

The School of Arts and Sciences at Holy Family University is seeking a qualified adjunct instructor to teach first-year writing (ENGL101) in Fall 2026 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm on the NE Philadelphia campus. Other additional afternoon/evening sections may be added. The ideal candidate will have:

an MA in English, Journalism, Composition and Rhetoric, Secondary English Education; or an MFA in Creative Writing
practical experience teaching writing at the university or secondary school level;
and a passion for engaging and inspiring students.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Teaching of courses in their assigned disciplines
Maintaining academic excellence in their classrooms
Responding to email correspondence from deans, coordinators and students in a timely manner
Providing grades and feedback to students in a timely fashion
Active and timely use of Canvas, our LMS and CRM, our retention software for student learning and engagement

Qualifications

The successful applicant must hold an earned academic degree (doctoral or master’s level) in the discipline or a related field appropriate for the contracted teaching responsibilities.

Official transcripts from undergraduate and graduate institutions and three letters of recommendation will be required upon hire.
