Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Hotel Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the hotel, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and effective management of budgets and internal controls. This role plays a key part in supporting strategic decision-making and maintaining the financial health of the property.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Monitor cash flow, revenue, and expenses to ensure financial stability
Ensure timely and accurate reporting in accordance with GAAP/IFRS standards
Budgeting & Forecasting
Develop annual budgets and financial forecasts
Track performance against budget and provide variance analysis
Work with department heads to control costs and optimize profitability
Internal Controls & Compliance
Establish and maintain internal control procedures
Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and legal regulations
Coordinate internal and external audits
Accounts Oversight
Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions
Ensure proper reconciliation of all accounts
Revenue & Cost Analysis
Analyze revenue streams including rooms, food & beverage, and other services
Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiency
Team Leadership
Manage and mentor the accounting/finance team
Provide training and support to ensure high performance
Strategic Support
Partner with the General Manager and executive team on financial planning
Provide insights and recommendations to improve business performance

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CMA preferred)
3–7+ years of accounting or financial management experience, preferably in hospitality
Strong knowledge of hotel accounting systems (e.g., Opera, SAP, QuickBooks, etc.)
Proficiency in financial reporting and analysis
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Work Environment

Business Partnering

Act as a strategic advisor to the General Manager and department heads
Challenge assumptions, identify risks, and spotlight opportunities across operations
Drive a culture of financial accountability across all teams

Performance & Profitability

Lead budgeting and forecasting processes with a focus on accuracy and agility
Analyze performance across revenue streams (rooms, F&B, events, ancillary services)
Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising guest experience

Controls & Compliance

Build and maintain strong internal controls that protect the business
Ensure compliance with all accounting standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
Lead audit processes with confidence and transparency

Team Development
