Full Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and hands-on Hotel General Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Phoenix-area hotel.

The General Manager will be responsible for all aspects of hotel operations, including Front Desk, Housekeeping, Breakfast, Maintenance, Guest Service, Staffing, Sales, Revenue Performance, Property Upkeep, and Financial Controls.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the property, is comfortable working directly with employees and guests, and can maintain high operational standards while improving revenue, profitability, and guest satisfaction.

Choice Hotels experience is strongly preferred. Experience with Hilton, Wyndham, Marriott, or other major hotel brands is a plus.

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day hotel operations and ensure smooth, efficient functioning of all departments.
Manage Front Desk, Housekeeping, Breakfast, Maintenance, and other hotel operations.
Recruit, interview, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate employees.
Prepare and manage employee schedules based on occupancy forecasts and business levels.
Monitor labor hours and payroll to maintain appropriate staffing and control labor costs.
Resolve guest concerns and service issues promptly and professionally.
Conduct regular inspections of guestrooms, public areas, exterior areas, and back-of-house areas.
Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, capital projects, and general property upkeep.
Plan and coordinate group bookings, special events, and other hotel business.
Assist with local sales efforts and develop relationships with corporate accounts, construction companies, groups, and other potential customers.
Work with revenue management to maximize room rates, occupancy, and overall hotel revenue.
Assist ownership and regional management with budgets, forecasts, and profitability initiatives.
Monitor accounts receivable, direct billing accounts, and outstanding balances when applicable.
Ensure compliance with franchise brand standards and prepare the hotel for Quality Assurance inspections.
Provide regular operational, financial, staffing, maintenance, and guest-service updates to ownership and regional management.
Be available to assist during weekends, holidays, high-occupancy periods, or emergencies when needed.

Qualifications and Skills

Proven experience in hotel or hospitality management.
Previous experience as a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Operations Manager, or similar leadership position.
Choice Hotels experience preferred.
Hilton, Wyndham, Marriott, or other major branded hotel experience is a plus.
Strong understanding of hotel operations, guest service, housekeeping, maintenance, and front-office functions.
Knowledge of hotel revenue management, ADR, occupancy, RevPAR, and rate strategy.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, train, and hold employees accountable.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced hotel environment.
Experience with hotel PMS systems, OTA platforms, and basic hotel technology.
Bilingual ability is a plus. Spanish or Tagalog/Filipino language skills are especially welcome.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is not afraid to be hands-on. The GM should regularly walk the property, inspect rooms, interact with guests, support employees, identify maintenance issues, and understand what is happening throughout the hotel.

The ideal candidate will have a strong combination of:

Operations + Guest Service + Revenue + Sales + Financial Discipline + Employee Leadership.

Experience improving an underperforming hotel, increasing guest satisfaction scores, controlling labor, improving revenue, or successfully completing brand QA inspections will be highly valued.

Compensation

Competitive salary based on hotel-management experience, brand experience, and qualifications.

Performance-based bonus opportunities may be available based on hotel revenue, profitability, guest satisfaction, operational performance, and brand standards.
