Full Job Description

Job Overview

Burke Basic School in Mesa, Arizona is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to join our student support team. Working under the direct supervision of our licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the SLPA will play a key role in delivering high-quality speech and language services to students, helping them build the communication skills they need to succeed academically and socially. This is an on-site, part-time position with strong potential to grow into a full-time role as caseload and program needs expand.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Student Support

Implement individualized speech and language intervention activities exactly as directed by the supervising SLP, including articulation, language, fluency, and social communication goals.
Support students in both individual (pull-out) sessions and small-groups settings.
Reinforce strategies and techniques modeled by the SLP, adapting delivery to fit each student's needs, age, and communicative profile.
Assist students with the use of any augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices or systems as directed.

Assessment & Documentation Support

Assist with screenings and structured data collection to support the SLP's evaluations and progress monitoring (SLPAs do not independently conduct evaluations, interpret results, or write reports).
Maintain accurate, timely session notes, data logs, and progress documentation in compliance with district, state, and IDEA/IEP requirements.
Track and report student progress trends back to the supervising SLP to inform therapy plan adjustments.

Materials, Scheduling & Environment

Prepare, organize, and maintain therapy materials, visuals, and treatment spaces before and after sessions
Assist with scheduling and coordinating therapy sessions around students' academic schedules, minimizing disruption to classroom instruction
Communicate with classroom teachers as needed to coordinate carryover of speech/language strategies into the general education setting
Must be able to navigate using Zoom to support with evaluations and supervision
Preferred: Experience using SLP Toolkit.

Supervision & Communication

Work under the direct supervision of the school's licensed SLP at all times, following Arizona's supervision ratio and documentation requirements
Proactively flag concerns, student behavior changes, or scheduling conflicts to the supervising SLP
Maintain strict confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) or a closely related field
Current, active Arizona SLPA certification/registration (or eligibility to obtain prior to start date).
Willingness and ability to work under the direct supervision of a licensed SLP per Arizona Department of Health Services / AZ Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology requirements
Prior experience working with school-age children in a clinical, therapeutic, or classroom setting strongly preferred
Current CPR/First Aide certification required (or ability to obtain before start date)
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail in documentation
Clear professional communication skills for working with students, families, teachers, and the supervising SLP
Comfortable working with diverse student populations, including students with IEPs and varying communication needs

Compensation & Schedule

$22.5 + hourly (adjustable depending on experience)
25-30 hours per week
Part-time position with the possibility of expanding to full-time based on program needs and caseload growth
On-site position at Burke Basic School, Mesa, AZ

Pay: From $22.50 per hour
