Job Overview
The Field Team Lead / Foreman at Sunland Welding & Fabrication is a key operational role with primary responsibility for steel erection and quality control. This is an active position requiring hands-on participation in field activities, alongside direct supervision of a small crew. The role oversees the full execution cycle, including reviewing final fabrication and erection drawings, coordinating material transportation, managing assembly and installation, and driving efficiency.
The Field Team Lead is expected to operate effectively under tight schedules, maintaining productivity and accountability across the team. In addition to field responsibilities, the role requires strong administrative oversight of active projects, including progress tracking and coordination with the customer project milestones.
Close collaboration with the Field Superintendent, Shop Manager, and Administration is essential to ensure alignment across field operations, production, and project coordination—supporting accurate execution, schedule adherence, and the consistent achievement of customer expectations.
Foreman Responsibilities:
- Oversight of the installation process and its schedule, including hands-on participation
- Ensuring task completion in a timely manner
- Conducting continuous reviews for quality control
- Maintaining and improving all facility safety and performance standards
- Bear ownership of each job during installation
- Being responsible for the selection and maintenance of equipment
- Creating and implementing new improvement standards
- Motivating co-workers and increasing team dynamics
- Maintain field paperwork
- Control inventory of consumables
General Requirements:
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Learn and follow company policies and procedures
- Must be self-motivated & punctual
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks
- Possess a sense of ownership and pride for the work assigned
Skills & Qualifications:
- 5+ years of field experience in structural steel erection, leadership level preferred
- Competence working at height and familiarity with fall protection systems
- Practiced knowledge of rigging, hand signaling, and crane coordination
- Ability to read and interpret erection drawings and layout markings
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Physical capability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in outdoor environments
- Effective communication skills and a commitment to jobsite professionalism
Preferred but Not Required:
- Certified FCAW/MIG welder
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification
- Aerial lift or forklift certification
Schedule: 40 hours, minimal overtime. Performance driven metrics to align with budget
Salary: $28-33/hr, negotiable based on experience. Performance review annually.
