Phoenix College (PC), the first public junior college in Arizona, welcomed its first students on September 13, 1920. In 1962, PC transitioned to a community college that is part of the Maricopa Community College District. Job Summary

Now hiring at Phoenix College! The Peer Navigator provides peer support services to students experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness. This position requires compassion, empathy, and a desire to help students successfully obtain safe and secure housing so they can pursue their education goals. Successful candidates will be able to provide skill building, positive modeling, and encouragement, and maintain confidentiality within a trusting relationship. Those with lived experience of housing and basic needs insecurity are welcomed and encouraged to apply.

Essential Functions

80% - Direct Support: Engage with assigned program participants using a person-centered and strengths-based approach; regularly contact and meet with participants to develop a supportive relationship; promote self-advocacy and instill hope; help participants identify natural supports, strengths, and resources to facilitate self-efficacy and self-sufficiency; provide education and skill building to promote successful attainment of secure and affordable housing in accordance with each participant's needs, abilities, and preferences; and assist linkages to essential community and campus resources that support the participant’s overall wellness and success.

15% - Documentation: Ensure that all activities are accurately documented in a timely and professional manner; collect essential information and data from participants in accordance with program guidelines.

5% - Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Lived experience with homelessness, housing instability, or basic needs insecurity.

Pursuing a degree in Counseling, Social Work, Behavioral Health, or Psychology and have an interest in learning housing navigation.

Desired Qualifications

One (1) or more years of experience working or volunteering with diverse or vulnerable populations, including those experiencing housing insecurity or homelessness.
One (1) or more years of experience engaging with other students in a work or volunteer capacity.
One (1) or more years of experience providing services in a helping role.
Proficiency in using online tools including email, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Google Suite, etc.
Bilingual, Spanish proficiency

Additional Requirements

Student must be attending Phoenix College during the current semester (enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits).
In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job.
FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.
