Turn Experience Into Better Processes
Wal-Tek Industries is looking for a highly experienced Senior CNC Product Development Specialist to help us improve how we manufacture precision components.
This is not a desk-only programming position. We are looking for an accomplished machinist and Mastercam programmer who understands what happens from the moment a program is created until a finished part comes off the machine.
Your primary focus will be evaluating existing CNC programs and manufacturing processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and developing better ways to produce our repeat work. You will help reduce cycle times, simplify setups, improve tool life, strengthen process reliability, and increase overall manufacturing efficiency—without sacrificing quality or safety.
At Wal-Tek, your experience will have a direct and measurable impact. You will work alongside Engineering, Operations, Quality, and our machinists to turn good processes into world-class processes.
What You’ll Do
- Review and optimize existing CNC programs using Mastercam
- Identify opportunities to reduce cycle time, setup time, and unnecessary machine movement
- Improve tooling strategies, toolpaths, speeds, feeds, workholding, and machining sequences
- Develop stable, repeatable, and efficient manufacturing processes
- Perform hands-on program prove-outs and process validation at the machine
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and program-related problems
- Evaluate opportunities for lights-out machining, automation, and increased machine utilization
- Work with machinists to capture shop-floor knowledge and incorporate it into improved processes
- Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Quality to ensure all improvements meet drawing and customer requirements
- Update programs, setup documentation, tooling information, routers, and work instructions
- Measure and document results, including cycle-time reductions, capacity gains, tooling savings, and quality improvements
- Support the development and standardization of machining best practices
- Help train and mentor programmers and machinists on improved processes
- Support new-product development and manufacturing readiness when needed
What We’re Looking For
- Extensive hands-on CNC machining experience
- Several years of advanced Mastercam programming experience
- Strong knowledge of CNC milling, multi-axis machining, and machining fundamentals
- Demonstrated success optimizing existing programs and reducing cycle times
- Ability to independently program, set up, prove out, and troubleshoot complex machined components
- Advanced understanding of tooling, speeds and feeds, workholding, cutting conditions, and material behavior
- Strong blueprint-reading and GD&T knowledge
- Experience manufacturing close-tolerance precision components
- Ability to evaluate the entire manufacturing process—not just the CNC program
- Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous-improvement mindset
- Ability to clearly document changes and communicate them to machinists and leadership
- Willingness to work collaboratively and spend time on the shop floor
Preferred Experience
- Five or more years of CNC machining and Mastercam programming experience
- Experience with 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machining
- Experience programming Haas, Kitamura, Mori Seiki, or similar CNC equipment
- Experience with horizontal machining centers, pallet systems, and production machining
- Aerospace, defense, or other high-tolerance manufacturing experience
- Experience improving unattended or lights-out machining processes
- Familiarity with AS9100-certified manufacturing environments
- Experience developing standardized setup documentation and manufacturing processes
How You’ll Make an Impact
You will be successful in this role when:
- Existing programs run faster, smarter, and more reliably
- Setup and cycle times are measurably reduced
- Tool life and machine utilization improve
- Processes become easier for machinists to repeat consistently
- Tribal knowledge is converted into documented, scalable processes
- Improvements increase capacity, quality, and profitability
- Our team becomes better because you shared your knowledge
