Pay: starts at $25.01/hr
Job Summary: The Production Lead is responsible for assisting the production supervisor in leading
department employees to meet manufacturing and production schedules. The Production Lead
provides overall direction to production floor employees in their respective department, including
production issues, production scheduling, new hire training and other training related areas, striving
to improve overall operational efficiencies during the designated shift.
This role is responsible for coordinating production operations in their department and
maintaining effective quality procedures and safety regulations for the facility under the
supervision of the applicable production supervisor.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Business Excellence
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the shift with constant emphasis on safety, quality,
productivity, and cost.
- Fills in for production supervisor’s vacations and appointments and production
employee call offs, during breaks, or as business needs require.
- Informs the on-shift supervisors of attendance, quality, and performance-based issues
that need to be addressed and fill out proper paperwork accordingly. Responsible to
ensure all company rules are followed. Disciplinary action is the responsibility of the
production supervisors and higher.
- Acts as first point of contact for operators regarding mechanical failure or production issues.
- Conducts hourly spot checks on the quality process for the department.
- Ensures completion of all safety required training or audits for the shift.
- Supports continuous improvement initiatives and enforce control procedures,
recommending improvements to the Production Superintendent, as appropriate
- Supports training initiatives as a SME (Subject Matter Expert) to enforce learning
objectives, follow assessment procedures, and conduct timely evaluations
- Coordinates production activities with other departments to ensure production goals/objectives
are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Monitor and track production activities to eliminate waste and ensure adherence to
production and shipping schedules.
- Inventory management for the department.
- Input production data accurately into systems to measure and monitor KPIs (Key
Performance Indicators) around efficiencies, downtime, inventory, and overall production
data.
- Provide recommendations to improve safety, environmental and health of the entire facility.
- Work with Production Supervisor to produce accurate daily reports on daily shift production
and daily shift review to assess if daily goals are met.
People and Culture
- Mentor and coach employees (as needed).
- Maintain staff by training and evaluating new employees. Following the training plan and
assessing the knowledge and performance to ensure competence in the department.
- Coordinates with maintenance employees to troubleshoot mechanical problems
and perform preventative maintenance.
- Enforce adherence to plant safety regulations and encourage employees to become safety-
conscious.
- Ensure daily that plant personnel follow all company standards and meet all customer
commitments.
