Engineering & Maintenance Manager
Location: Jackson, Ohio
Position Summary
We have an opportunity with our client in Jackson, Ohio for an experienced Engineering & Maintenance Manager to lead engineering projects and maintenance operations within a manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations through effective capital project management, equipment reliability, preventive and predictive maintenance, and continuous improvement.
The Engineering & Maintenance Manager will oversee capital projects, equipment installations, facility maintenance, department budgets, maintenance personnel, and reliability initiatives while partnering closely with Operations, Quality, Safety, and Engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering & Capital Projects
- Lead engineering and capital improvement projects from initial concept through completion.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, timelines, and financial justifications for capital expenditures.
- Prepare and maintain capital project documentation and expenditure proposals.
- Coordinate the installation, commissioning, and start-up of new equipment and production lines.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable standards, regulatory requirements, and accepted engineering practices.
- Draft, update, and maintain plant layouts and engineering documentation.
- Evaluate project feasibility, costs, and return on investment and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Serve as a key liaison between Engineering, Operations, and other stakeholders throughout project execution.
Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
- Direct maintenance activities for production equipment, utilities, buildings, and facility infrastructure.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Utilize CMMS software to manage work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and equipment maintenance history.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and drive solutions that minimize production downtime.
- Maintain appropriate spare-parts inventory and effective inventory management practices.
- Identify opportunities to upgrade equipment, improve automation, and increase operational reliability.
- Ensure buildings, utilities, and grounds are maintained for safe and efficient operations.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop maintenance technicians and engineering personnel.
- Establish department goals and monitor performance against key performance indicators.
- Hold team members accountable for productivity, quality, attendance, and safety expectations.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support employee training and technical skill development.
Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, food safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify potential safety hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Support food safety and quality initiatives through equipment reliability and compliance.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on increasing equipment uptime, reducing waste, lowering maintenance costs, and improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Monitor engineering and maintenance projects to ensure deadlines and operational objectives are met.
Budget & Performance Management
- Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor maintenance and project expenditures to ensure effective cost control.
- Prepare project updates, maintenance metrics, reports, and performance analyses for leadership.
- Maintain accurate engineering, maintenance, and project documentation.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Project Management, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.
- An equivalent combination of education and extensive maintenance leadership experience may be considered.
Experience
- 7+ years of progressive maintenance and engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
- At least 3 years of experience leading engineering projects and capital equipment installations.
- At least 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
- Food manufacturing experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, PLC controls, automation, utilities, fabrication, and facility systems.
- Demonstrated experience managing capital projects from planning through implementation.
- Experience with CMMS software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- CAD software experience preferred.
- Strong project management, budgeting, and organizational skills.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, equipment reliability, and operational excellence.
Working Conditions
This position operates in a hands-on manufacturing environment and may require repeated bending, stretching, twisting, and lifting. The role involves regular interaction with production equipment and facility operations and requires the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, tight deadlines, and competing demands.
Pay: $150,000.00 per year
