Overview

The Finance Assistant/Bookkeeper supports the financial operations of the church by performing a variety of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and donor management functions. This position works closely with church staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, vendors, and donors to ensure accurate financial records, timely payments, and effective stewardship of church resources. The Finance Assistant maintains strict confidentiality and handles all financial matters with integrity and professionalism.

Responsibilities

The Finance Assistant supports the financial operations of the church by performing a variety of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, and donor management functions. This position works closely with church staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, vendors, and donors to ensure accurate financial records, timely payments, and effective stewardship of church resources. The Finance Assistant maintains strict confidentiality and handles all financial matters with integrity and professionalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform a variety of financial and administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
Prepare semi-monthly payroll processing.
Track, record, and reconcile charitable contributions, including donations, trusts, memorial gifts, and other designated funds.
Deposit cash funds at bank weekly.
Communicate with donors to address questions, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate contribution records.
Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports for church staff, the Treasurer, and ministry leaders.
Reconcile financial accounts within the Realm Accounting system and perform monthly bank account reconciliations.
Process reimbursements and payments for staff, volunteers, ministry purchases, and church credit card expenses.
Review and process vendor invoices and ensure timely payment of accounts payable.
Serve as the primary contact with financial institutions regarding church credit card accounts and related issues.
Process apportionment payments, quarterly mission disbursements, bank wires, and Foundation deposits and withdrawals.
Manage and reconcile all church Venmo transactions and related activities.
Process contributions to employee 403(b) retirement plans and minister health and retirement benefit programs.
Prepare and distribute quarterly donor giving statements.
Maintain organized financial records and documentation in accordance with church policies and accounting procedures.
Lead contact for all internal and external audits.
Uphold confidentiality and exercise discretion in all financial and personnel matters.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting principles, and financial recordkeeping.
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Commitment to maintain confidentiality and handling sensitive information responsibly.
Experience with church finance systems, donor management software, or Realm Accounting is preferred.
Associate degree preferred.

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
