Overview:
SMASH is the sister restaurant to Glen Ellen Star and Stella, built by the same team with the same commitment to quality, consistency, and hospitality. The difference is format. SMASH is designed for speed, volume, and a more casual guest flow, but the standards are still high.
Our guests should feel energy, confidence, warmth, and cleanliness the moment they walk in. Counter service does not mean casual execution. Every order, every station, and every guest interaction should reflect care and control.
The standard at SMASH is simple: Move Fast. Stay Sharp. That means working with urgency, communicating clearly, protecting food quality, keeping the restaurant clean, and taking care of both guests and teammates without losing focus when the pace picks up.
Positions:
Cashier
The cashier is responsible for setting the tone at the counter and helping create a fast, organized, and hospitality-forward guest experience. This position should remain at the counter unless otherwise directed by a manager. The cashier is expected to stay attentive, keep the line moving, answer questions clearly, and maintain accuracy during all guest interactions.
Duties
During service, the cashier is responsible for greeting guests, taking orders accurately, answering menu questions, and guiding guests through the ordering process efficiently. The cashier should ask for the guest’s phone number for rewards as a standard part of every transaction.
When alcohol is ordered at the counter, the cashier is responsible for checking identification carefully and following all alcohol service standards. If there is any uncertainty regarding age, identification, or guest condition, a manager must be involved immediately.
Cashiers are also responsible for handing out beverages ordered at their register, as well as fulfilling beverage orders placed through the self-serve kiosk. This should be done with speed and accuracy. The cashier should remain aware of guests approaching the counter, guests who may need help using the kiosk, and guests with basic pickup or menu questions.
Busser
The busser is responsible for maintaining a clean, stocked, and guest-ready dining room throughout service. This role supports both the guest experience and the flow of the restaurant by keeping dining areas orderly, assisting with food running when needed, and handling general upkeep of guest-facing areas.
Ongoing Duties
During service, the busser is responsible for clearing tables when guests do not clear them themselves, wiping down empty tables promptly, and returning dirty trays to the dish pit. The busser must continuously monitor the dining room and address cleanliness issues before they build up.
The busser is also responsible for checking restroom cleanliness throughout the shift and making sure restrooms remain presentable and properly stocked. Guest trash should be monitored and emptied before it becomes excessive.
This position is responsible for maintaining the condiment station located next to the pickup area. The condiment station includes two ketchup pumps, one mayo pump, one mustard pump, utensils, napkins, portion cups, condiment lids, and straws. The busser must keep this area stocked, clean, and orderly throughout service.
When The Beacon or the upstairs lounge is open, Wednesday through Sunday, the busser may also be required to run food as needed. Downstairs guests will pick up their own food, so this support is limited to upstairs service needs.
Shake Counter
The shake counter is responsible for producing shakes, and slushies accurately and efficiently. This station operates from its own KDS (In the hospitality industry, KDS stands for Kitchen Display System). This role must maintain strong organization, attention to detail, and steady production during service.
Ongoing Duties
During service, the shake counter is responsible for monitoring its KDS, preparing drinks accurately according to ticket information, and maintaining pace without sacrificing accuracy. Matching the prepared item to the ticket is the most important standard at this station.
This role is responsible for ensuring that the correct shake, & slushy match the ticket on the KDS. Tickets should be read carefully, and the station should stay organized so that volume does not lead to confusion or incorrect builds.
The shake counter must also maintain a clean and functional work area during service. Spills should be cleaned promptly, product should be handled carefully, and cups, lids, and station tools should remain organized throughout the shift.
EXPO
Expo is responsible for the final guest-facing handoff of dine-in pickup orders, online pickup orders, and third-party delivery pickups. This is often a tandem roll. This role helps keep the handoff process clear, efficient, and organized. The Expediter (Expo) position is responsible for ensuring every guest order is accurate, organized, and delivered quickly while maintaining communication between the kitchen and front-of-house team. Expo acts as the final quality control checkpoint before food reaches the guest.
This position requires strong attention to detail, urgency, organization, and communication skills during both high-volume rushes and slower periods. The Expo team member is expected to maintain a clean and fully stocked station while ensuring all packaging, sauces, beverages, and supplies are prepared for smooth service.

During service, expo is responsible for handing off completed orders to guests and delivery drivers and helping answer pickup-related questions. This may include questions about whether an order is ready, where a guest should sit, missing-item concerns, delivery driver questions, and general pickup flow. Red stickers over straw hole for
