We are seeking a talented, dependable, and creative Chef Assistant to join our culinary team and help shape the dining experience at two of Pittsburgh's most distinctive boutique inns—The Inn on Negley in Shadyside and Boggs Mansion in the historic Mexican War Streets.

This is more than a traditional kitchen position. Working alongside our Executive Chef, you'll help create memorable breakfasts, elegant afternoon tea experiences, intimate weddings, private events, and seasonal culinary offerings that leave lasting impressions on our guests.

About You

You are passionate about creating exceptional food and understand that every plate contributes to the guest experience. You're organized, adaptable, and take pride in delivering consistent quality in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of professional culinary experience
Experience preparing breakfast, brunch, bakery items, pastries, or afternoon tea service
Experience with catering, private events, or banquet production preferred
Strong baking and pastry skills are a plus
ServSafe Certification preferred
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Comfortable working independently while contributing to a close-knit culinary team
Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety, and presentation
Reliable transportation with the ability to work at both Pittsburgh locations
Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift up to 30 pounds

What You'll Do

As a Chef Assistant with The Gather Company, you'll help create memorable culinary experiences while supporting the daily operation of two boutique inn kitchens.

Create Memorable Breakfast Experiences

Prepare and serve beautifully presented breakfasts for overnight guests
Deliver consistent quality, flavor, and presentation each morning
Ensure every guest begins their day with an exceptional dining experience

Craft Elegant High Tea

Prepare traditional afternoon tea menus featuring tea sandwiches, house-made pastries, desserts, savory items, and seasonal specialties
Assist in developing creative menus that showcase fresh, high-quality ingredients
Help preserve and elevate one of Pittsburgh's premier high tea experiences

Support Weddings & Special Events

Prepare food for private dinners, celebrations, weddings, holiday events, and catered functions
Coordinate food preparation and production schedules to ensure seamless execution
Collaborate with the culinary team to create memorable guest experiences

Bake with Passion

Prepare bakery items including quick breads, pastries, desserts, savory baked goods, and seasonal specialties
Contribute creative ideas for new menu offerings and rotating features

Maintain Culinary Excellence

Uphold exceptional standards for food quality, consistency, and presentation
Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen
Follow all food safety, sanitation, and ServSafe standards
Assist with inventory management, ordering, and product rotation

Be a Team Player

Work closely with the Executive Chef and hospitality team to deliver exceptional service
Support both Inn on Negley and Boggs Mansion as business demands require
Jump in wherever needed to ensure an outstanding guest experience in any aspect of the inn operation

Compensation & Benefits

Position: Full-Time (Part-time applicants will also be considered)

Location: Inn on Negley & Boggs Mansion, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Schedule:

Primarily daytime hours beginning around 6:30 a.m.
Evening hours for special events and private functions
Weekend and holiday availability required
