Do you love creating unforgettable experiences that bring families together? Are you energized by planning engaging events, building community, and leading programs that create lifelong memories? The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh is looking for a dynamic, mission-driven Program Director to lead our Adventure Guides program and oversee one Summer Day Camp.

Adventure Guides is one of the YMCA's signature family programs, designed to strengthen the bond between parents and children through shared experiences, outdoor adventures, and meaningful traditions. In this role, you'll bring the program to life by coordinating engaging activities, supporting volunteer leaders, communicating with participating families, and creating fun, welcoming experiences throughout the year.

A highlight of the Adventure Guides program is our family campouts. The Program Director will lead the planning and operation of approximately 6–9 weekend campouts each year and is expected to attend these events on Friday and Saturday evenings to ensure families have a safe, organized, and memorable experience.

The Program Director will also work closely with Adventure Guides volunteer leaders who play an important role in the success of the program. This includes managing, organizing, collaborating, and coordinating with volunteer leaders; attending monthly volunteer meetings; and maintaining regular communication through email, phone calls, and other appropriate channels. The successful candidate will be responsive and accessible to program participants and volunteers, providing timely support, guidance, and clear communication.

During the summer, you'll also serve as the Director of one Summer Day Camp, leading a team dedicated to providing an exciting, safe, and enriching camp experience where children build friendships, confidence, and lifelong memories.

What You'll Do

Lead and grow the YMCA Adventure Guides program throughout the year.
Plan and coordinate engaging family events, activities, and traditions.
Recruit, support, and collaborate with volunteer leaders.
Communicate regularly with participating families and prospective members.
Coordinate all logistics for Adventure Guides events, including 6–9 overnight campouts each year.
Attend and provide leadership during Friday and Saturday campout weekends.
Direct a YMCA Summer Day Camp, including staff leadership, program planning, safety, and daily operations.
Recruit, hire, train, coach, and supervise seasonal camp staff.
Ensure programs meet YMCA standards for quality, safety, and risk management.
Build a welcoming, inclusive culture where every family feels connected and supported.

We're Looking For Someone Who

Is a passionate leader with at least 2 years of experience in youth programs and 1+ year of staff supervision. Experience with summer camp is a plus.
Has a passion for youth development and strengthening families.
Enjoys planning events and creating memorable experiences.
Builds strong relationships and enjoys collaborating with volunteer leaders.
Is comfortable leading meetings and working with volunteers to plan and implement programs.
Is organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities.
Thrives in both office and outdoor settings.
Is comfortable working evenings and weekends throughout the year, including approximately 6–9 overnight campouts.
Brings positive energy, creativity, and a commitment to the YMCA mission.
Has sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to safely supervise program activities.

What You’ll Need to Join Us

Must be 21+ years old
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Frequent travel around that Pittsburgh area may be required
Required clearances: Act 33, 34, 151 & NSOR
Mandated Reporter Certification (within 45 days – paid training)
Completion of health/TB screening and 10 hours of DHS training within 30 days (paid)
CPR and Pediatric First Aid within 90 days (paid)
