Be open to receiving constructive feedback and committed to their own professional learning and growth as a leader.ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIESThe Director of Social Emotional Learning and Student Support will: Report to the Assistant Superintendent for College and Career Readiness and Student Support.
Design and evaluate district-wide SEL curricula and student support programs. Support the effective implementation of SEL curricula and interventions at the school and classroom levels through training, coaching, and other strategies. Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to counselors, social workers, and school-based support staff. Develop and monitor systems, such as MTSS/PBIS frameworks, that assess SEL skills and ensure students receive timely academic, behavioral, and emotional support.
Partner with principals and teachers to build positive, inclusive, and supportive school climates. Analyze student data to identify student needs, close gaps, improve systems, and measure program impact. Engage families and community organizations as partners in student success and well-being. Ensure programs and practices are culturally responsive to Pittsfields diverse student population.
Support crisis response, conflict resolution, and restorative practices across schools. Manage department budgets and grant-funded initiatives related to student support services.QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCERequired Qualifications Citizenship or residency/work visa. Minimum of a masters degree in social work, school psychology, or related field. Leadership experience in an educational and/or clinical setting.
Experience developing and managing district and/or school systems and programs, preferably in a high-performing or turnaround setting. Strong working knowledge of current research and best practice in SEL, multi-tiered support systems, behavioral interventions, restorative approaches, culturally responsive strategies, and the impact of trauma and poverty on student socialization, behavior, and learning. Proficiency in curriculum development, lesson planning, data-informed instruction, school culture, and administrative management. Demonstrated ability to develop actionable work plans, remain highly organized, manage time effectively, attend to details, and meet deadlines.
Track record of improving student outcomes and supporting the development of instructional practitioners and specialists. Excellent interpersonal, relational, and written communication skills.Preferred Qualifications Experience in a leadership role in a diverse, urban, or high-needs setting that serves a multilingual population.
