JOB SUMMARY:
The Chiropractic Assistant (CA) is responsible for creating a welcoming environment for patients by facilitating their flow through the EDCHC Chiropractic services. This position serves as a hybrid function of Front Office receptionist tasks and the Chiropractic equivalent of a Medical Assistant. The CA supports communication between the Chiropractor and other Care Team staff in the clinic that directly affects patient satisfaction and long-term clinical outcomes.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supports Front Office in scheduling appointments and conducting reminder calls; directs walk-in patients and emergencies as per established policies and procedures.
2. Registers patients per registration protocols and collection of necessary documentation, signatures, and billing information per billing protocol.
3. Reviews and verifies patient coverage of insurance or other agencies and computes the charges to be paid by the patient.
4. Responsible for rooming patients in accordance with EDCHC clinical workflows and ensuring proper documentation and data collection/documentation in EHR, including vitals for new patient visits.
5. Maintains appropriate levels of Chiropractic supplies by communicating to Medical Assistant Supervisor when orders are needed.
6. Ensures that all services provided have been checked out properly for each patient and reconciles the day’s activities for appropriate billing, including ensuring all orders and imaging have been scheduled.
7. Works closely with Primary Care Teams to assure smooth patient flow and cut down on patient waiting time, including updating patients of extended wait times.
8. Follows up on “no show” patients on daily basis for rescheduling.
9. Assists Chiropractor with patient education and posture screening activities as needed.
10. Answers patient inquiries about chiropractic and encourage referrals for spinal evaluations as appropriate.
11. Tracks referrals per insurance guidelines; submit Prior Authorizations for visits beyond payor approved allotment.
12. Other related duties as the job requires.

Additional Duties:
1. HIPAA compliance – responsible for maintaining abreast of and in compliance with all HIPAA regulations and requirements. Treats all member information confidential.
2. Compliance – Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
3. QA/QI – Participate in QA/QI activities and contribute towards the overall performance improvement of the organization.
4. IT – Required to learn and use the EHR and its components. As required by the job functions and highlighted in the policies and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Community clinic or medical office operations.

Pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding issues affecting licensed community clinics, e.g., OSHA requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Education and Certification:
-
High school graduate/ GED required with one year of medical/dental or chiropractic assistant experience in similar setting preferred.
- Formal training from a vocational school in lieu of the above.
- Ability to relate to the patients, through familiarity with medical terminology and triage procedure.
- Must believe in health care dignity for all.
- Ability to speak, read and write in English; bilingual in Spanish, preferred.
OTHER
Physical Requirements:
Normal health center/interior office environment. See, hear, talk, walk, sit and/or stand for long periods of time, reach, stoop, bend, lift and/or carry up to 50 lb., transfer clients of any weight and may be required to assist patients on to and off of examination table; may be required to assist patients who have a mobility impairment including but not limited to: pushing a wheelchair and assisting patients with crutches or braces, etc. Repetitive hand movement; use and view a computer, operate copier, telephone; read and write English. Significant portions of daily assignment may also involve application of manual skills requiring eye-and-hand coordination in combination of finger dexterity.
