POSITION TITLE: Part-time Academic Success Coach

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Be responsible for providing academic and success coaching to Plainview WBU students over a variety of areas associated with student success.
SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:
- Provide academic and success coaching, proactive advising, etc. to WBU students in a variety of areas associated with student success, retention, eligibility, financial aid, etc.
- Maintain regular communication and potentially meet with an assigned sub-set of the student population (international, online, specific teams, etc.) who are struggling academically or at-risk.
- Learn and use the student success software to log, track and respond to student alerts and provide critical interventions. Attend training as needed to facilitate this.
- Aid students with time management, study strategies, test preparation strategies, etc. and connect students to resources on campus.
- Communicate regularly with faculty and coaches on progress of students, course requirements, eligibility and other issues that affect student success in the classroom.
- Assist the Director of Student Success with programming/events, communications, and data collection regarding student success, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate or Bachelor degree strongly preferred in education, psychology, social sciences, social work, counseling, child development, or any other related field.
Experience and Knowledge: Preference given to candidates with higher education, teaching or counseling experience. Bilingual (Spanish/English) desired.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
- Skill in the use of computer applications specifically Microsoft Office Suite/365. Ability to learn other software as necessary.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students and the general public.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
- Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
- Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for the student’s best interests.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work unsupervised and take initiative to realize/recognize needed steps and respond in a timely and effective manner.
Work Environment: The work environment for this position is a standard office setting. Employees will work primarily at a desk or workstation, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. The office maintains a controlled temperature. Noise levels are generally moderate, with typical office sounds such as conversations, foot traffic and phones.
Hours of Work: Plainview campus – Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Since this position is part-time, up to 29 hrs/week may be logged. A timesheet will be submitted bi-monthly. There is an opportunity for these hours to be flexible in days of the week and time of day with consideration given to student high-volume time periods.

- Frequently stand and walk;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward while sitting or standing;
- Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds;
- Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally carry up to 25 pounds;
- Occasionally push or pull objects;
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
- Frequently reach at or below shoulder height, and occasionally reach above shoulder height
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
