Data Center Senior Project Manager

Position Summary
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, management, execution, and successful delivery of large-scale data center construction projects. This position provides leadership from preconstruction through commissioning and closeout, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements, design documents, specifications, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage complex data center construction projects from preconstruction through final turnover.
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, manpower plans, and procurement strategies.
Coordinate with owners, general contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, vendors, and commissioning teams.
Manage project scope, contracts, change orders, RFIs, submittals, material procurement, and project documentation.
Monitor project costs and financial performance, including forecasting, billing, labor costs, and productivity.
Lead project meetings and communicate project status, risks, schedule changes, and financial performance to senior leadership and clients.
Coordinate installation of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, controls, fire protection, structural, and other mission-critical systems.
Ensure work is performed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, codes, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies before they impact cost or schedule.
Work closely with commissioning teams to coordinate pre-functional testing, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing (IST), and final turnover.
Manage project milestones and ensure critical activities remain on schedule.
Review subcontractor performance and hold trade partners accountable for safety, quality, schedule, and production.
Oversee procurement and delivery of long-lead equipment and critical materials.
Manage change management and negotiate change orders with clients and subcontractors.
Review construction progress and verify manpower and production levels.
Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, meeting minutes, schedules, cost reports, and closeout documentation.
Ensure all required testing, inspections, documentation, and turnover packages are completed.
Mentor and provide leadership to Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Superintendents, and project staff.
Maintain strong relationships with clients and serve as a primary point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.

Data Center / Mission-Critical Experience

Successful candidates typically have experience with:

Hyperscale and colocation data centers
Mission-critical construction
Medium- and high-voltage electrical systems
Generators and emergency power systems
UPS systems and battery systems
Switchgear and electrical distribution
Mechanical cooling systems and chilled water
Building Management Systems (BMS)
Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
Fire protection and life-safety systems
Structured cabling and low-voltage systems
Controls and automation
Commissioning and integrated systems testing
Phased turnover and owner occupancy

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
8–15+ years of construction/project management experience, preferably with significant data center or mission-critical experience.
Proven experience managing large-scale commercial, industrial, electrical, mechanical, or mission-critical projects.
Strong understanding of construction contracts, scheduling, estimating, cost control, and project financial management.
Experience with construction scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
Proficiency with project management/document-control platforms such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar systems.
Strong understanding of OSHA requirements and construction safety practices.
Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and large project teams in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to travel and work on active construction sites as required.

The ideal candidate is an experienced construction leader who can manage $100M+ data center projects, understand both the technical and financial sides of construction, and effectively coordinate multiple trades and stakeholders. They should be comfortable working in a highly schedule-driven environment where safety, quality, reliability, commissioning, and on-time turnover are critical.
